Summary
The packaging manager is responsible for training new hires and personnel within the packaging department. Will assist in verifying SOPs and is responsible for generating product line needs (pick tickets) for each day scheduled. The packaging manager will additionally assist with basic trouble‑shooting for the packaging department.
Position Duties and Responsibilities- Train new hires, verifying date codes and the use of correct packaging containers; advise employees performing certain job functions of the correct procedures for Lock Out / Tag Out, confined space, or other programs necessary for the job performed.
- Change ingredient lists or product lot numbers as needed.
- Maintain verbal communication regarding maintenance issues or repairs, sanitation concerns, or potential GMP issues.
- Responsible for the accurate completion of all required packaging reports, documentation, and record keeping, in English.
- Troubleshoot to ensure the right product is correct with the appropriate packaging and date codes; ensures packaged product is correctly and neatly stacked and ready for shipping.
- Verifies the proper SOPs are utilized; ensures paperwork and records are accurate and product skiers contain the correct information and properly applied.
- Determine quantity needs for product and ingredient expectations through daily generation of pick tickets, perform the reverse put-away process for items not needed or used.
- Verify inventory levels and ingredient availability through Navision.
- Inspect finished goods and end products to verify specifications have been met, the product is packaged correctly and labels and date codes are correct before shipping. Ensures no expired date codes or lot numbers are used.
- Communicate with team when product is out of grade or beyond specifications. Ability to make corrections or adjust product lines and determine the cause of defects and reasons for out-of-specification concerns.
- Follows, and ensures others follow all cleaning and sanitation procedures. Perform and manage all other duties as necessary and assigned.
Normal plant/manufacturing environment. Hours of operation are 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The position is very physical/hands on. Will be exposed to high levels of noise, extreme heat or cold, steam, dust, and wet, humid and slick conditions, and all other factors normally attributed to a manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements- Must be able to stand, knead or move repetitively for up to 8 hours
- Must be able to lift on a regular basis up to 50 lbs without assistance, and 100 lbs with assistance.
- Ability to tolerate working with or around dust or chemicals.
- Bending, stretching, lifting, reaching, climbing, crawling, crouching and manual dexterity required.
- Ability to operate machinery and equipment, including Hyster and Forklift.
- Must be willing and able to work weekends, holidays, and extra hours as needed.
