Bus Monitor Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Conduct daily child health observation to determine child health status or injuries for children boarding the bus.
- Obtain and secure child medications for proper pickup and delivery utilizing safe handling procedures and documenting such activities appropriately.
- Responsible for the safety and supervision of children during transportation, including securing children properly in appropriate child safety restraints prior to departure, monitoring children to remain secured throughout transportation, securing “Red Bags,” and the loading and unloading of children from the bus in accordance with Transportation policies and procedures.
- Assist the bus driver during emergencies and evacuation drills and ensure the vehicle is maintained in a sanitary condition.
- Provide educational activities as part of school readiness efforts and give feedback to teaching staff/coordinating staff regarding observed behaviors/development during bus activities.
- Act as a liaison between parents and center staff regarding center activities, child issues, and upcoming program events based on the PFCE Framework.
- Provide child engagement through activities such as singing, fingerplays, stories, and positive conversations based on the HSELOF.
- Ensure that all children are properly released from the school bus to the parent, guardian, and/or designated person as documented in the child’s file.
- Provide short‑term relief (breaks) to classroom staff under the supervision of a qualified teacher in the classroom or playground, as required and contingent upon prior training and qualifications.
- Provide interpretation services in the classroom while assisting with coverage, at home visits, and Parent/Teacher conferences, as needed.
- Assist in staffing/ child‑ratio fulfillment in classrooms, kitchen duties, or other areas of the center when requested, contingent upon prior training and qualifications.
- Assist the bus driver/janitor with cleaning and maintaining the building and playground as needed.
- Transport and supervise children and parents during parent meetings, field trips, health clinic visits, and other assigned activities.
- Participate in training for serving children with disabilities or special needs (e.g., wheelchairs, special car seats, allergies) in accordance with the child’s IEP and/or IFSP.
- Assist with ongoing recruitment plan activities, including recruitment of children with disabilities.
- Provide support or training to other locations (centers) with some travel requirements.
- Attend all staff meetings, trainings, and other program activities as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Be 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or GED (Dependent on each state’s childcare licensing requirements).
- A CDA credential is preferred and/or must enroll in the CDA for classroom coverage.
- Ability to work irregular and flexible hours.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred – both oral and written.
- Have dependable transportation to and from work.

- Frequently exposed to moderate temperature generally encountered in a controlled temperature environment.
