Position Summary

Manage design elements and develop standards for interior and exterior spaces of hospital space. Provide project management for installation of design elements including furniture, fixtures, requisite planning and procurement for related facility functions. Facilitate, coordinate, and/or lead the execution of multiple, major and minor capital projects to ensure projects are completed within the prescribed scope, schedule, and budget. Ensure adherence to Hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

Detailed Responsibilities
  • Develop and administer the division's annual budget; monitor and approve expenditures.
  • Ensure project operations are in compliance with design specifications and University, state, and federal policies and regulations.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, and attending in-services, meetings and workshops.
  • Maintain currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state‑of‑the‑art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  • Review and interpret proposed designs, architectural drawings, and building specifications for appropriateness to required fruition and/or institutional standard; initiate revisions where appropriate.
  • Coordinate design review with department managers including the plan of construction, equipment and furniture specifications.
  • Review and interpret proposed designs, architectural drawings, and building specifications for appropriateness to required FF&E, IT, and ASE procurement and installation.
  • Participate in interior and exterior design of new facilities, additions, and renovations as assigned; concurrently manage multiple simple to complex projects from assignment through project close‑out.
  • Research, compose, and format content of all Interior Environments Standards to ensure a unified approach to quality, functionality, and longevity.
  • Inspect buildings and office areas to evaluate suitability for occupancy considering such factors as air circulation, lighting, location, and size.
  • Provide planning for project(s) Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FF&E);
    Information Technology and Communication (IT);
    Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP) and Architecturally Significant Equipment (ASE) for assigned departmental projects.
  • Independently manage designed space project development process and serve as primary liaison and collaborator between client groups, consultants, and various institutional service units. Provide support and guidance to leadership and project management team on area(s) of expertise.
  • Oversee project design, bids, orders, and installation for clients to ensure design/function is achieved and consistent with overall Institutional design guidelines. Review, negotiate, and process change requests and change orders.
  • Review projects for affordability, consistency, and completeness of design, according to project objectives; inspect furnishings and finishes to ensure conformance to plans and specifications.
  • Manage or oversee project support activities including development and maintenance of job files and tracking of project schedule and budget; directly responsible for scope, budget, and schedule development of assigned projects.
  • Oversee and coordinate activities of contractors, vendor personnel, and suppliers: monitor contracts for compliance and control costs. Perform quality control inspections to ensure adherence to contract specifications and industry standards.
  • Prepare purchase requisitions for proper authorization and approve contractor invoices for payment within the approved budget.
  • Research and prepare various reports pertaining to operations, equipment, policies, procedures, and/or other issues as appropriate.
