Summary: Diagnose and treat cancer in adults using chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, biological therapy, and targeted therapy. The medical oncologist works in collaboration with the supportive care team and may coordinate treatment given by other specialists. Hematology includes diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders.
Practice Highlights- 60% Oncology / 40% Hematology
- Clinic hours M – F 8:00 – 17:00;
Wednesday and Thursday Tumor Board - Practice Responsibilities: 80% office, 10% inpatient, 10% admin
- Call frequency: 7 weeks per year
- Member of the New Mexico Cancer Care Alliance for clinical trials
- Systemwide Epic (EMR) system
- Order and oversee diagnostic testing in alignment with NCCN guidelines.
- Prescribe treatment and supportive medications.
- Collaborate with the care team—palliative care, psychology, social work, PT, OT, speech, dietician, nursing, research.
- Oversee care provided by Advanced Practice Clinicians as required by provider licensure.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives to drive standards of care across the continuum.
- Participate in tumor board(s) (required).
- M.D. or D.O. with fellowship in Medical Oncology and Hematology.
- Board Eligible / Board Certified in Hematology/Oncology.
- New Mexico Medical License.
- Demonstration of CARES behaviors and practice of collaborative care.
- 3‑5 years minimum experience preferred.
