Overview

SONOGRAPHER role at UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center. Department:
Radiology - Ultrasound. FTE: 0.05. PRN.

Shift: Rotating.

Location:

Rio Rancho, NM.

Compensation includes differential pay:
Weekday Nights 17%, Weekend Nights 26%, Weekend Day 15%. Minimum and maximum offers vary by experience and qualifications.

Position summary and responsibilities are performed under the delegated authority of the supervising physician, providing diagnostic medical sonography services to assist diagnosis and treatment, in accordance with facility policies and professional standards. This role may involve Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric patient care assignments.

• Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
• Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve policies and processes
• Identify and report environmental conditions or situations that may put a patient at risk
• Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
• Encourage patients to participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting unclear or concerning situations
• Prepare exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct examinations per infectious disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols
• Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information
• Assume responsibility for patient safety during the examination
• Conduct clinical assessment and perform the diagnostic sonography examination ordered by the supervising physician in accordance with facility protocols
• Apply independent judgment to ensure appropriate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions are accurately captured in images
• Refer diagnostic or prognostic questions to the appropriate physician only as authorized by policy
• Review examination images, synthesize results, and prepare preliminary findings for the interpreting physician
• Perform quality control to ensure ultrasound equipment operates at optimal levels
• Maintain and ensure accuracy of facility reports, database records and logs
• Ensure results meet Quality Assurance standards before release for interpretation
• Carry out quality assurance and quality improvement measures
• Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with co-workers and the healthcare team
• Under supervision of Radiologist, retrieve, handle, store, and dispose of medications used during radiology procedures

Credentials:

• CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuers within 30 days
• NM Medical Imaging & Radiology Therapy Licensure (NMMIRT)
• ARDMS or Ultrasound Certification from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists

Nonessential Credentials:

• 1 or more ARDMS specialty exams

Physical and Working Conditions:

• Medium work: exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects
• Working conditions may include moderate exposure to chemicals and hazardous materials
• May be required to perform on-call duties
• TB testing required at hire and as needed
