CLINICAL DIETITIAN - UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center
Position SummaryCollaborate with members of the healthcare team to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy, and monitor the effectiveness and outcomes of nutrition interventions. Evaluate the nutritional status of patients using diet recall/history, physical appearance, oral intake, laboratory values, and anthropometric measurements. Provide nutrition education to patients and family members. Manage delivery of nutrition care services on assigned units. Ensure adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Patient care assignments may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.
- Perform nutrition care functions according to system policy, including nutrition screening, assessments, and development of care plans
- Follow-up monitoring and reassessment of patients at nutrition risk, basing clinical practice on current evidence
- Direct the nutrition care aides to ensure nutrition care meets the nutrition therapy care plan
- Identify, monitor, and evaluate effectiveness of enteral and parenteral nutrition support regimes
- Provide care in accordance with organizational ethics, licensure, and Standards of Professional Practice for Dietetics professionals
- Assess learning needs and provide nutrition education appropriate to patient literacy and cognitive ability
- Share knowledge with the health care team through rounds, staff in-services, committee work, and teaching
- Serve as a preceptor for dietetic interns
- Maintain accurate records to meet regulatory guidelines and assist in data analysis
- Enhance professional growth through participation in educational programs, literature review, and attendance at in-services and workshops
- Follow patient safety policies and proactively identify opportunities to improve safety
- Encourage patient participation in their own care by asking questions and reporting concerns
- Utilize evidence-based best practices to improve patient outcomes

Bachelor s Degree;
Nonessential:
Master s Degree - Education specialization:
Related Discipline (Essential/Nonessential as applicable) - Experience – Essential: 6 months directly related experience;
Nonessential: 1 year directly related experience - Credentials – Essential:
Certification with Commission on Dietetic Registration/eligible; NM Dietitian License or Provisional Dietitian License; CPR for Healthcare/BLs or Professional Rescuers within 30 days
- Light work:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently; may involve standing or walking for extended periods - Working conditions:
Minor hazards (dirt, dust, fumes, noise); on-call duties; may work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends; TB testing as required
Selected candidate is eligible for a $15,000 sign-on bonus and relocation assistance.
