Job SummaryAnticipates the needs of the surgical team and establishes and maintains sterile field during surgical procedures in the operating room. Reports to Clinical Director/Administrator.
EssentialJob Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures sterility of all supplies and instruments during setup of surgical procedures.
- Assists circulating nurse and surgical team in maintaining sterile environment.
- Assists in gathering necessary surgical supplies and equipment.
- Conducts sponge, needle, and instrument count pre-operatively and intra-operatively with circulating nurse.
- Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants.
- Assists with keeping physician preference cards accurate/updated.
- Retains all specimens for pathology, confirming source/name with surgeon.
- Transports all surgical equipment to cleaning areas; assists in reprocessing instrument sets.
- Interacts appropriately with all patients/others regardless of age or ethnic background.
- Uses Standard Universal Precautions, hand hygiene, PPE, and safe practices to ensure safety.
- Assists with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance and participates in emergency preparedness drills.
- Follows equipment and safety guidelines; responsible for knowledgeable use and care of equipment.
- Serves as a resource to other members of the health care team.
- Attends in services, conferences, and meetings as required.
- Communicates effectively and courteously with visitors, physicians, and staff; maintains privacy and confidentiality per policy.
- Maintains certified CPR as offered by the center.
- Acts in accordance with the vision, mission, and business philosophy of the Center.
- Complies with policies, procedures, and safety guidelines to ensure safe work and patient care environment.

Education and/or Experience- High School Diploma/GED with completion of a Scrub Technician Program; certification preferable.
- Two years experience as a Scrub Tech in multiple specialties or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- General familiarity with medical terminology as it pertains to anatomy and surgical procedures for an operating room.
- Employee stands, walks, sits, uses hands to finger, handle or feel objects and tools; reaches, climbs, stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls; talks and hears.
- Regularly lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds; occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 100 pounds.
- Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, extreme cold, radiation, moving mechanical parts, wet/humid conditions, electrical shock.
