Shift: Rotating
Provide clinical respiratory care under the supervision of a CRT or RRT. Assemble and operate various types of equipment used in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disease, disability, impairment or illness. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.
Detailed Responsibilities- Perform patient assessments in accordance with department policy
- Assist the certified and registered respiratory care practitioner staff with routine treatment therapies
- Assist the certified and registered respiratory care practitioner staff with other non-invasive aspects of respiratory care
- Initiate or change oxygen related delivery devices according to department policy
- Adjust/titrate oxygen according to department protocol standards
- Administer chest physiotherapy
- Administer aerosol and positive breathing therapies (other than Bi-level devices) with ordered medications
- Assist the certified and registered respiratory care practitioner staff with continuous bland aerosol devices
- Assist the certified and registered respiratory care practitioner staff with basic oxygen supplementation
- Communicate purpose and procedure of clinical respiratory care to patient or patient representative, following HIPAA guidelines
- Ensure customer and patient satisfaction using scripting procedure
- Assist in equipment and environment maintenance; route malfunctioning equipment for repair
- Transport equipment (to and from various units) and department gas cylinders
- Document procedure and outcomes of care to patient
- Support education and research in conjunction with the Chief of Clinical Operations
- Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
- Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
- Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
- Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
- Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
- High School or GED Equivalent
- Program Graduate
- Complete 1st Year at RT Program at VCC
- No minimum experience required
- CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuer within 30 days
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification within 1 year
- Respiratory Care Permit in NM within 120 days
Heavy Work:
Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

Chemicals, Bio Hazardous Materials require PPE - Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required
