Industrial Maintenance Electrician IV – Amentum
Amentum is seeking an Industrial Maintenance Electrician IV to join our operations & maintenance team. This role is responsible for providing advanced expertise in responding to work orders, troubleshooting, servicing, and documenting the electrical and controls needs of equipment and systems related to HVAC units for CNC production equipment, conveyors, motors, lighting systems, control circuits, VFDs, PLCs, conveyors, cranes, and hoists.
The position requires maintaining, improving, and developing control systems, programming ladder logic/PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Wago, GE, Micro Logix, Control Logix, PLC‑5) and HMI. The electrician will work with controls and instrumentation such as thermocouples and transducers, and primary voltages up to 480 V. In addition, the electrician will provide instruction, mentor and train less‑skilled technicians, and communicate with site management and customers to solve electrical and manufacturing problems.
The role also involves identifying and correcting safety‑related issues and performing independent equipment evaluations to anticipate failures. General maintenance of equipment is required.
- Safely perform functions of the position, following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis, lockout/tagout procedures, and wearing PPE as required.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical equipment and control circuits from 24 V up to 480 V AC, electro‑mechanical test devices, instrumentation devices, PLCs/ladders, and variable frequency drives as necessary.
- Calibrate instrumentation equipment and controls for optimum performance.
- Procure parts from crib systems, OEM, or authorized vendors.
- Identify and document cost savings.
- Ensure work conforms to NEC guidelines.
- Utilize the building automation system to track building conditions and facility equipment operation.
- Utilize strong electrical and mechanical skills to complete assignments.
- Perform preventive maintenance as scheduled in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Respond to and provide service and feedback to the customer on all work orders, ensuring compliance with codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Recommend measures to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.
- Analyze and resolve work problems or assist workers in solving work problems.
- Understand company policies and enforce safety regulations.
- Operate various measuring, diagnostic, and testing instruments to provide energy‑efficiency solutions.
- Operate a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers, and diagnostic hardware to perform work.
- Maintain a strict schedule while demonstrating flexibility in daily activities and scheduling for customer benefit.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.
- High school diploma or acknowledged equivalent.
- Five years of experience performing electrical maintenance in an industrial environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to work in an aerial lift or scissor lift at heights up to 30 ft or higher.
- Electrical license.
- Associates degree in industrial technology or certificate from an industrial electrical course.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing 480 V 3‑phase systems.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical issues on cranes and hoists.
- Experience installing, troubleshooting, and repairing VFDs, Allen Bradley PLCs, and Allen Bradley RS Logix Software.
- Experience installing rigid conduit and EMT up to 3 in.
- Working knowledge of NEC, sizing wire and transformers, calculating conduit fill.
- Experience troubleshooting and replacing 3‑phase motors up to 60 hp.
- Experience with a CMMS or Maintenance Management System (e.g., Maximo, MP2).
- NFPA‑70E training preferred.
- Some tasks require repetitive wrist movement.
- Some tasks require extensive walking throughout facilities during a workday.
- Must be able to climb extension ladders, roof ladders, step‑ladders, and stairs as needed.
