JobPurpose and Summary
Within our Retail locations, Pharmacy Technicians play a critical role in supporting our pharmacy teams to consistently deliver operational and service excellence. Technicians assist the pharmacy team to ensure prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately, and provide caring service that exceeds patient expectations. They apply Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices, and effective communication in all customer and colleague interactions.
Technicians are often the first point of contact to assist patients and customers, contributing to a safe and inclusive culture where all people feel valued and empowered.
- Live our purpose by following all company SOPs at each workstation to help Pharmacists manage and improve patient health
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, drop‑off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care: creating heartfelt moments while serving patients at pick‑up, drive‑thru, and over the phone; offering immunizations and other services at the register and over the phone; solving or escalating patient problems
- Complete basic inventory activities, such as accurately putting away medication deliveries and completing cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks, waiting bin inventories, etc.
- Contribute to a high‑performing team, embrace a growth mindset, and be receptive to feedback; actively seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge needed to better assist patients
- Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, including voluntarily traveling to stores in the market to work shifts as needed
- Understand and comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles; comply with CVS policies to ensure patient safety, controlled substance dispensing and recordkeeping, and protect patient privacy and security
- Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, and voluntary staffing offsite clinics) where allowed by law and supported by required training and certification
- Support immunizations (if permissible): complete additional licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status; educate patients about vaccines; monitor for adverse reactions and report per public health requirements; review and document patient information; manage vaccine supplies
- Comply with state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy, including age, education, and licensure/certification

- Must meet minimum age requirement of at least 16 years (if not set by state board)
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in high school or an equivalency program (if not set by state board)
