Job PurposeProgram Aides On‑Call are generalists responsible for providing educational, relational, and social experiences for infants, toddlers, and/or preschool‑aged children to foster growth in all developmental domains. The role reports to the Education and Inclusion Manager or Center Director and may involve travel to program sites and home visits. A frontline representative, the Program Aide ensures child and family safety and embodies the agency’s values of Accountability, Ambition, Collaboration, Creativity, and Integrity.
Responsibilities- Provide general classroom support, including assisting classroom staff in all activities and performing tasks such as copying newsletters, cutting materials, and making phone calls.
- Serve as a temporary substitute for Assistants or Teachers as needed.
- Assist with custodial duties: picking up trash, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning windows, and performing minor maintenance and repairs.
- Perform kitchen duties: dishwashing, portioning foods, logging temperatures, preparing meals for children with special needs, and participating in food service clean‑up and inventory tasks.
- Act as a bus monitor and attend all required workshops, staff meetings, parent meetings, and community events.
- Gain understanding of Head Start Program Performance Standards and local licensing regulations, and maintain confidentiality regarding children and families.
- Adhere to all Save the Children policies, including the Head Start Employee Handbook and Human Resources procedures.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Certification as required by federal, state, or local Head Start or childcare regulations.
- Within 90 days of employment, obtain and maintain basic first aid and pediatric CPR certification.
- Knowledge of working with infants, toddlers, and preschool‑aged children.
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Ability to relate sensitively with children and communicate effectively with staff, parents, and families.
- Demonstrated ability to follow directions and take initiative.
- Ability to keep family information strictly confidential.
- Experience working with children with disabilities.
- Physical ability to perform medium to heavy work, including lifting up to 50 pounds intermittently and up to 20 pounds regularly.
- Clear background check, including criminal records and child abuse registry verification.
- Valid driver’s license if required for motor vehicle use per job responsibilities.
- Preference for current and former Head Start/Early Head Start parents.
The base pay for this position starts at $15 per hour. Actual base salary may vary based on experience, credentials, and internal equity.
