Assistant Store Manager – San Joaquin County
Join The Save Mart Companies as an Assistant Store Manager and contribute to one of California’s largest regional grocery chains. The role, based in San Joaquin County, works in tandem with the Store Manager to oversee all aspects of daily store operations.

Key Responsibilities- Lead and direct all front‑end and center‑store operations, providing team members with assignments, direction, training, coaching, and counseling to meet or exceed company service levels.
- Manage store conditions, product quality, and inventory, resolving out‑of‑stocks and auditing product quality to maintain date integrity.
- Develop and implement weekly work schedules for optimal labor efficiency and service.
- Serve as the final decision maker on store operational issues in the absence of the Store Manager.
- Handle all aspects of hiring, training, and developing team members, including conducting interviews, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions.
- Coach and mentor team members toward advancement and store management roles.
- Promote customer focus through the Customer Connection programs, ensuring exceptional shopping experiences.
- Track and analyze sales and profitability data to support budgeted labor goals and maximize profits.
- Maintain compliance with company sanitation, safety, security, and legal mandates, serving as the store point of contact for.
- Excellent leadership and team‑building skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Excellent interpersonal, customer service, coaching/mentoring, and training skills.
- Proven decision‑making, delegation, and negotiation abilities.
- Strong organization, administration, and financial skills.
- Fundamental understanding of labor contracts.
- Knowledge of store operations, financials, hazardous materials, food safety rules, employment law, union contractual agreements, and hiring practices.
Education:
Four‑year college degree or equivalent knowledge gained through formal education or certification (e.g., RMCP), specialized retail training, or additional grocery retail experience is a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of two years of management/leadership experience is required.
Physical:
Basic office environment: ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, stoop, and use stairs, reach, pull and lift objects.
Hiring pay range: $70,145.00 – $92,065.00.
