Category Manager

As a member of the Procurement team, the Category Manager is responsible for strategic management of assigned commodities by developing and implementing commodity strategies through the analysis of current spend, selecting and managing suppliers, negotiating pricing, executing contracts, and general procurement administration. The role emphasizes project management as a key contributor to our Value Enhancement program.
Primary duties- Implements cost, delivery, and quality improvement programs in the procurement of Indirect Goods and Services.
- Manages supplier development, sourcing, relationships, and contract administration.
- Accountable for driving and executing assigned projects, providing routine updates on status.
- Ensures all suppliers meet project schedules and continuously improve cost, quality, and delivery requirements.
- Identifies poor performing suppliers, drives improvement opportunities, or finds alternative sourcing options to ensure uninterrupted supply.
- Works on complex problems/projects requiring in-depth evaluation of multiple factors and timely communication.
- Conducts research to identify new sources of supply, evaluates current suppliers, prepares reports, and manages supplier relationships for assigned commodities.
- Ensures supplier relationships are conducted in an ethical and professional manner.
- Facilitates cross-functional work groups to select new suppliers using cost‑based methods.
- Works with internal customers toward prompt resolution of opportunities/issues, exemplifying a positive customer service mentality.
- Keeps procurement trends up to date by maintaining affiliations with successful companies, attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional associations.
- Minimum of three years of experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- SAP experience preferred.
- Highly proficient in the use of Excel and experience with data analysis.
- Strong business acumen.
- Proficient investigation and research skills.
- Excellent material planning and inventory management skills.
- Demonstrated cross‑functional team leadership and facilitation skills.
- Experience working with global suppliers.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Customer service mentality/relationship building.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or related field required.
- ASCM certification preferred.
- Position involves sitting for long periods, standing, manual dexterity, stooping, bending, and minimal lifting.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally on an as‑needed basis.
