Field Biologist On Call – Keish Environmental
Keish Environmental is seeking a Field Biologist (On-Call/As Needed) to conduct biological surveys, assessments, and compliance monitoring for infrastructure projects in Southern California. The position works alongside government and private industry clients to provide biological surveys, delineations, assessments, and permit compliance documentation.
When required the employee will travel to project sites to perform inspections, attend meetings, and conduct timely field reporting. The role is remote, but on-site travel is necessary for construction site inspections and stakeholder coordination.
Position Overview- On‑Call, remote (8‑10 hrs/week, varies by project)
- Travel required to project sites for inspections and meetings
- Work independently on diverse sites, assessing habitat conditions and ensuring permit compliance
- Conduct pre‑construction surveys for nesting birds and sensitive species
- Monitor regulatory compliance (401/404/LSAA permit oversight)
- Collect and analyze field data; prepare technical reports
- Track and map wetland and habitat acreage
- Coordinate with stakeholders, agencies, and project teams
- Lead educational outreach and training
- B.S. in Ecology, Biology, Natural Resources, or related field
- 5+ years of field monitoring experience
- Species handling certifications preferred
- Strong report writing, data analysis, and project coordination skills
- Ability to interpret construction plans, specifications, estimates, and site schematics
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Physically fit (carry 30 lbs., navigate varied terrain, work in adverse conditions)
- Highly organized self‑starter with a track record managing concurrent projects
- Experience with CEQA/NEPA biological mitigations
- Knowledge of California and Federal wetland permitting processes (401/404/LSAA)
- Valid Construction General Permit Qualified SWPPP Practitioner (QSP) certification preferred
- Valid certification as an Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP)
- Strong independent work ethic and collaboration skills
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. (no sponsorship provided)
- Active professional involvement in related professional organizations desirable
- Proactive communicator, collaborator capable of providing clear reports and updates
- Reliable transportation to remote sites
