Retired educator/In-home learning coach for a 22-year-old female with Autism
Position Overview:We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, and dedicated retired teacher, substitute teacher, or early education tutor to provide individualized in-home academic instruction for a bright and curious young girl with autism. She is currently working within 1st–3rd grade academic levels, with particular focus needed in reading, comprehension, writing
, and building structured learning habits.
This role goes beyond tutoring-it's about showing up consistently, teaching with intention, and helping her make tangible academic progress toward 5th grade mastery
, especially in reading fluency and comprehension
.
- Monday through Friday: 2 to 3 hours per day
- Note: A consistent, structured time is preferred to support learning routines. Some flexibility is available, but reliability is key.
$ per hour BOE (waiver-funded)
Total Hours10-15 hours per week
Duties & Responsibilities- Deliver in-person, paper-based instruction using:
- Whiteboards, flashcards, books, visuals, and structured worksheets
- Digital tools (e.g., IXL)
only as a supplemental resource
- Focus daily on reading and phonics mastery
-this is the core priority - Teach and review 1st–3rd grade concepts using repetition, modeling, and gentle correction
- Break down lessons into manageable segments to support attention and emotional regulation
- Build learning momentum through routine, structure, praise, and patience
- Support skills in reading aloud, decoding, following directions, and early writing
- Monitor academic growth and track weekly progress toward long-term goals
- Retired or former elementary school teacher
, homeschool educator
, or experienced tutor - Strong foundation in teaching early reading and comprehension skills
- Skilled at working with children who thrive with repetition, emotional steadiness, and calm instruction
- Experience with, or willingness to learn, how to support children on the autism spectrum
- Leads with kindness and structure
-never pressure or over stimulation - Comfortable using both hands-on and digital learning tools
- Bonus:
Familiarity with IEPs
, visual schedules
, or social-emotional learning strategies
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to read and write in English.
- A valid Georgia driver's license and auto insurance are required.
- CPR & First Aid Certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross.
- Current TB test.
