- Southern Company.Position Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Lead with over 10 years of relevant experience or a 4-year degree to support the construction, commissioning, and startup of gas compression stations, LNG plants, and utility-scale industrial projects. This role is integral to ensuring safe, compliant, and high-quality installation and operation of electrical systems throughout all phases of a project.
Key Responsibilities:Project Execution & OversightEnforce and promote a strong safety culture in line with OSHA and company standards.
Inspect electrical installations for adherence to engineering drawings, codes, and specifications.
Coordinate with engineering, field personnel, contractors, and vendors to resolve technical issues and track corrective actions.
Support project planning, scheduling, and resource coordination to meet construction milestones.
Oversee verification, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and devices.
Validate system readiness using checklists, schematics, and vendor documentation.
Execute testing and commissioning protocols for medium and low voltage systems, including:
Switchgear & MCCs
Transformers (Power & Distribution)
Protective relays and control circuits
VFDs and generators
Motors and motor starters
Review and update technical drawings and schematics to ensure as-built accuracy.
Support or lead electrical safety procedures including LOTO, Arc Flash/Blast protocols, and Shock Hazard protections.
Document and report progress, test results, and issue logs to project management.
Conduct or assist with training of plant O&M personnel as required.
Support site management with administration of contractor scopes and progress.
Participate in or lead project-related meetings (pre-bid, safety briefings, contractor onboarding, status updates).
May supervise subcontractors, junior technicians, or client personnel as needed.
10+ years of hands-on experience in construction, commissioning, or maintenance in utility, LNG, gas compression, or heavy industrial settings.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Working knowledge of NEC, NESC, NFPA, and applicable industry standards for electrical installations.
Experience with electrical safety practices and system reliability verification.
Familiarity with construction techniques for cable tray, conduit installation, cable pulling, and electrical system integration.
Proficient with interpreting and marking up electrical schematics, vendor drawings, and design documents.
Effective communication and problem-solving skills to coordinate across multidisciplinary teams.
Self-starter with ability to prioritize tasks, manage time independently, and meet aggressive project timelines.
Strong knowledge of electrical testing standards (e.g., megger, hi-pot, relay testing, loop checks).
OSHA and environmental compliance awareness; formal certifications are a plus.
