All About General Merchandise

Experts of store process and efficiency who enable a consistent experience for our guests by ensuring product is set, in-stock, accurately priced and signed on the sales floor. The General Merchandise and Food Sales team leads inbound, outbound, replenishment, and promotional signing processes for all General Merchandise (GM) areas of the store. This team conducts inventory accuracy, merchandise set-up and maintenance and pricing processes for all areas of the store.

Experts enable efficient delivery to our guests by supporting pick, pack and ship fulfillment work.

• Knowledge of guest service fundamentals and experience supporting a guest-first culture across the store
• Experience in retail business fundamentals including department sales trends, inventory replenishment, and process efficiency and improvement
• Experience executing daily/weekly workload to support business priorities and deliver on sales goals

As a General Merchandise Expert, a Typical Day Will Most Likely Include

• Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests as you complete daily tasks
• Engage with guests to help solve their specific needs
• Thank guests and let them know you’re happy they chose to shop at Target
• Receive products, restock shelves, organize the backroom, arrange merchandise, and put up promotional signs for GM areas
• Operate power equipment if certified
• Change prices, maintain merchandise setup, and help maintain inventory accuracy
• Learn how procedures affect inventory management, store profitability, and product availability
• Be knowledgeable about available resources, products, and services to solve guest issues
• Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety, and compliance
• Work safely and report hazards, following safety policies and training
• Support guest services such as back-up cashier and digital fulfillment processes (e.g., picking/packing orders or delivering pickup orders) while complying with laws
• All other duties based on business needs

• Accurately handle cash register operations as needed
• Climb ladders
• Move merchandise safely, including lifting up to 44 pounds
• Flexible work schedule (nights, weekends, holidays) with reliable attendance
• Ability to work in varying temperatures and conditions while performing duties
