Overview
The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill Building Inspector positions across Riverside County. A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies. This recruitment will remain open until vacancies are filled.
PositionsBuilding Inspector I and Building Inspector II positions are available in Riverside, Temecula, or Desert locations. To advance to an interview, a valid International Code Council (ICC) B1:
Residential Inspector or B2:
Commercial Inspector certification must be listed in your application. For Building Inspector II
, certification may be ICC B5:
Building Inspector (Prerequisites: B1 and B2) or C8:
Combination Inspector (Prerequisites: B1, B2, M1, M2, E1, E2, P1, P2).
The TLMA Building and Safety department offers opportunities for Building Inspector I or II across multiple locations.
- Building Inspector I:
Assist the public with building permit applications; receive plans for plan checks and provide necessary forms and information; learn to determine conformity with standards, input data into permit/tracking software, and provide public information over the counter and by phone; perform field inspections of simple structures; attend in-service training; confer with supervision on training needs. - Building Inspector II
:
Inspect residential, commercial, and industrial buildings, as well as mobile homes, for code compliance; review plans for compliance; receive permit applications and issue permits; coordinate with other permitting agencies; conduct environmental enforcement inspections; explain regulations to builders and the public; route inspections and manage data entry into the information system.
- All levels:
Education — Graduation from high school or equivalent (Certificate of Proficiency or satisfactory GED score); valid California Driver's License may be required. - Building Inspector I – Option I:
Six months as Building Inspector Trainee with the County;
Option II:
One year of building/construction inspection experience, with college coursework substituting for up to one year; ICC B1 or B2 certification required. - Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of building and grading codes, construction materials, and permit tracking software; ability to read and interpret plans and complex technical material; ability to communicate effectively with builders, contractors, and the public; data entry and use of automated inspection systems.
- Building Inspector I:
Options I and II with corresponding experience requirements and ICC certifications. - Building Inspector II
:
Option I:
One year as Building Inspector I with prerequisites;
Option II:
Two years of relevant inspection/engineering experience; certifications listed above; knowledge and abilities similar to I but expanded to multi-code scope.
- Building Inspector I: $33.3587 - $44.7643 hourly
- Building Inspector II
: $39.2832 - $52.7413 hourly
