ROLE OVERVIEW And PURPOSEThe Dentist works to support the mission and vision of Neighborhood Healthcare (NHC) by providing dental services to patients. This role will perform dental procedures and services to patients based on initial dental assessment and plans. In addition, this role will impart health education information and techniques to patients.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement individualized dental care plans for patients.
- Assess dental needs and refer patients to dental specialists or medical providers as needed, using medical staff protocols for referral, follow-up, and quality assurance.
- Provide comprehensive dental care, services, and preventive health education/techniques to patients in compliance with standard procedures.
- Perform dental procedures and services that are within the approved scope profile and/or scope of practice.
- Observe, assess, and record patients’ symptoms, reactions, and treatments progress.
- Prescribe medications and provide patients with pertinent medication instructions, as needed.
- Work with the dental team to facilitate prescription refills and paperwork completion.
- Provide dental backup to NHC dental sites and clinicians, as needed and available.
- Provide supervision, consultations, instructions to Dental Assistants and other health care delivery team members in NHC dental sites, as needed.
- Serve as preceptor to dental and paraprofessional students placed with NHC.
- Accept additional patients into the schedule, as needed.
- Accommodate patients with urgent dental needs, including walk-ins.
- Minimize rescheduling of patients; provide instructions if necessary.
- Complete and submit daily billing to reflect accurate coding and charges of all services rendered.
- Work with management on improving efficiency, patient flow, program development, and revenues.
- Maintain necessary credentialing, licensure, and continuing education requirements.
- Assist management with employee evaluations for the Dental PSRs or Dental Assistants, as needed.
- Participate in audits, peer reviews, patient satisfactions, protocol developments, meetings, and in‑servicing trainings.
- Contribute to the success of NHC by participating in quality improvement activities.
- Complete legible and legally defensible dental records.
- Doctorate degree in Dental Medicine (DMD) or Dental Surgery (DDS) required.
- Valid CA Dental License required.
- Valid DEA license and current CPR/AED certification required.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
