The Department of Political Science at the University of California, Riverside, invites applications for a tenured position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor of Teaching whose teaching and scholarship specializes in law and society and/or law and politics as part of an effort to develop our law-related curriculum and expand the interdisciplinary Law and Society Program in the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences.
The Department has a strong preference for scholars who approach the subjects of law and society/law and politics from the perspectives of comparative politics or American political development, but candidates outside these areas with an appropriate terminal degree (a Ph.D. or J.D.) will be considered. A PhD in Political Science or related field is required at the time of application.
The successful candidate must be able to develop and teach courses with substantive legal content and have a record of scholarship, which may include pedagogical research. The faculty member hired through this search will be expected to teach classes and take an active service role in both the Department of Political Science and the interdisciplinary Law and Society Program in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Professors of Teaching in the University of California are full academic senate members and are expected to engage in research, teaching, and service. The typical course load is six classes over the academic year. The appointment level and salary will be competitive and commensurate with education and experience. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2026.
Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input.

The University of California values salary transparency and reports salaries annually in the UC Annual Wage Database. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step Table(s) https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). Salary range for Associate Professor of Teaching is $99,600 - $125,500. Salary range for Full Professor of Teaching is $116,600 - $212,000. “Off-scale salaries” and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive condition.
