SGMA Technical Assistance Community Educator for Small Farms (CES IV)

The University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) Small Farms Network hires a staff educator to provide technical assistance, extension education, and policy analysis to small-scale and underserved farmers during California’s Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) implementation. The position is based in the Riverside region covering Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.

Responsibilities
  • Visit farms to provide individual technical assistance, including hydrogeological consulting, legal services, irrigation system analysis, and water conservation support.
  • Develop educational materials, conduct outreach activities, workshops, and field days, and connect farmers to resources from nonprofit and private sector partners.
  • Engage with local groundwater sustainability agencies (GSAs); attend meetings, review groundwater sustainability plans (GSPs), analyze local and regional groundwater management policies, and provide information on the impacts of local policy decisions.
  • Co‑ordinate project activities with the UC ANR Small Farms Network, a program of UC SAREP, the Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF), and other nonprofit and agency partner organizations.
Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of sustainable groundwater management and experience working with small farms.
  • Excellent communication, outreach, and educational skills.
  • Ability to assess regional needs and determine appropriate methods for outreach, education, and technical assistance.
  • Experience collaborating with local agencies and private sector partners is a plus.
