Senior Engineering Technician

The County of Riverside’s Flood Control & Water Conservation District invites applications for a Senior Engineering Technician assigned to the District’s Design Division in Riverside. The Senior Engineering Technician will prepare complete construction drawings for all assigned projects, prepare exhibits as needed, and assist project engineers with computer-aided modeling and analysis. Perform sub‑professional field and office civil engineering work.

Candidates will have advanced experience using AutoCAD and Civil 3D drafting software in support of civil engineering design and plan production. Advanced proficiency in pipe networks and corridor modeling, training guidance, troubleshooting Civil 3D issues, and modifying AutoLISP routines are highly competitive.

The Senior Engineering Technician is a natural progression underfill for the Senior Engineering Technician – PE. Incumbents are eligible to promote to Senior Engineering Technician – PE upon attaining a valid certification of registration as a Civil Engineer.

Advancement to the Principal Engineering Technician level is obtained by competitive selection through an open recruitment. Advancement to the Associate Surveyor is obtained by competitive selection through an open recruitment.

• Prepare design and construction plans, exhibits, and standard drawings from engineering sketches and dimensions using computer-aided drafting software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, Google Earth, Sketch Up, etc.).
• Perform area and volume calculations to generate accurate quantity takeoffs and assist design engineers with site reconnaissance (measuring distances, heights, and using hand level and tape).
• Operate plotters to generate construction plans and exhibits to proper scales and in conformance with the District Drafting Manual and Standards; draft construction changes and record drawings.
• Develop and implement drafting standards, workflows, and best practices; troubleshoot drafting or production issues with staff.
• Organize and maintain records of drafting files in digital and PDF formats.
• Assist with creating customized drawing and layer templates, custom labels and styles, and support needed with AutoCAD and Civil 3D software.

• Four years of sub‑professional civil engineering experience, at least one year at a level equivalent to County of Riverside Engineering Technician II.
• A bachelor’s degree in surveying engineering or civil engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Certificate of Registration as Engineer‑in‑Training or Land Surveyor‑in‑Training issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
• Two years of sub‑professional engineering experience.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D drafting, pipe networks, corridor modeling, and AutoLISP routine development.
• Completion of certified Auto Desk training with emphasis on Civil 3D is highly desirable.
• Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License.

The Senior Engineering Technician will perform physical work outdoors throughout the year, be exposed to inclement weather, and work on uneven or sloped surfaces, including inspections at higher elevations.

License:
Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License is required for traveling to various inspection sites.
