The Sr. Engineer for Product Development supports new product development and sustaining activities by researching, planning and designing mechanical and electromechanical products and systems. Directs and coordinates activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation and repair of mechanical and electromechanical products and systems.

In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:

• Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposal, specifications and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
• Designs products or systems such as instruments, controls, robots, machines, and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems.
• Supports/participates in cross-functional development teams to plan, schedule and implement project requirements, specifications, cost targets and performance criteria.
• Prepares or modifies scaled, detailed and accurate mechanical layouts and drawings of new or existing designs and assemblies utilizing CAD.
• Prepares tolerance studies of new and existing designs.
• Participates in Failure Effects Modes Analysis (FMEA) and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA).
• Creates product specifications that meet the marketing requirements.
• Creates quality specifications to meet product requirements in the field.
• Plans and directs personnel in the fabrication of prototypes, testing of products per quality specifications, in the fabrication of test fixtures and assembly fixtures and in the selection of raw and purchased materials.
• Makes disposition decisions on parts that deviate from print through the Material Review Board process.
• Provides sustaining engineering support to the plants to implement design changes, process improvements and cost reduction projects.

To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or equivalent engineering program from an ABET accredited college or university.
• Engineer IV-7+ years relevant experience
• Engineer V-10+ years relevant experience
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents.
• Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
• Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management and public groups.

• Completion of EIT
• Knowledge of systems applications software, i.e., SAP desirable
• Knowledge of Microsoft Project desired
