Senior Engineering Technician (Finance)

The County of Riverside's Flood Control & Water Conservation District has an opportunity for a Senior Engineering Technician to work in the Design Division in Riverside.

• Prepare complete construction drawings and exhibits for assigned projects.
• Assist project engineers with computer‑aided modeling and analysis.
• Perform sub‑professional field and office civil engineering work.
• Use AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, Google Earth, and Sketch‑up to prepare design and construction plans, exhibits, and standard drawings.
• Conduct area and volume calculations for accurate quantity takeoffs.
• Assist with field reconnaissance of project sites, measuring and recording distances and heights.
• Operate plotters to generate construction plans and exhibits to proper scales in accordance with the RCFC&WCD Drafting Manual and Standards.
• Draft construction changes and prepare record drawings.
• Develop and implement drafting standards and workflows, and troubleshoot drafting or production issues.
• Organize and maintain records of drafting files in digital and PDF formats.
• Assist with creating customized drawing and layer templates, custom labels and styles for AutoCAD and Civil 3D.

Option I – Experience

• Four years of sub‑professional civil engineering experience, at least one year equivalent to a County of Riverside Engineering Technician II.
• College courses in civil engineering or related subjects may substitute up to two years.

Option II – Education

• A bachelor’s degree in surveying engineering or civil engineering from an accredited institution.

Option III – Certification

• Valid Certificate of Registration as an Engineer‑in‑Training or Land Surveyor‑in‑Training issued by the California State Board.
• Two years of sub‑professional engineering experience.

Highly Desired

• Advanced experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D, including template creation, complex functionality support, pipe network and corridor modeling, providing technical guidance or training to staff.
• Experience troubleshooting advanced Civil 3D issues and developing or modifying AutoLISP routines.
• Completion of certified Autodesk training emphasizing Civil 3D.

Knowledge of: engineering principles, practices, mathematics, construction materials and methods; manual and automated drafting techniques; use of hydrologic devices; boundary control and legal principles of land surveying; construction, photogrammetric, and land surveying procedures, practices and equipment.

Ability to: make difficult mathematical computations; read, interpret, prepare, or check detailed records of surveys, maps and engineering plans; test and inspect construction work and materials; perform survey field work; coordinate computer‑aided mapping activities; complete difficult technical assignments without immediate supervision; analyze complex data and prepare effective reports and recommendations; supervise subordinates; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

License:
Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License is required for traveling to various inspection sites.

The Senior Engineering Technician will perform physical work outdoors throughout the year in Riverside County, be exposed to inclement weather, and may work on uneven or sloped surfaces. Inspections may involve close proximity to the ground or ascending to inspect materials at higher elevations.
