Position Summary

The Financial Analyst 4 is responsible for providing high level data analysis and reporting for the CNAS Dean's Office. The incumbent performs complex financial forecasting and analytics, works closely with departments FAOs and FOMs and central campus offices to allocate college resources and resolve financial issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs complex financial and budgetary analysis including forecasting to produce financial reports. Extracts data from multiple sources and systems and produces synthesized reports. Analysis includes development of quantitative models, fluctuation/variance analysis, operating models, budget models, impact analysis, and testing data for accuracy and reasonableness. Assembles and analyzes requests for resources including ad‑hoc requests for funding. Develops recommendations regarding reasonableness of request, resource availability and effective uses of resources to achieve college goals and objectives.

    Records approved commitments and manages transfer of funds process. Administers the college's critical financial resources such as temporary teaching/graduate student researchers, faculty start‑up packages and benefits. Participates in fiscal closing process to ensure processing of year‑end financial entries in a timely and accurate manner. [40%]
  • Applies advanced professional concepts to perform complex technical analysis to understand past performance and determine present and future performance and/or resource allocations. [10%]
  • Gathers information, analyzes, prepares and summarizes recommendations for financial and/or resource plans, including annual resource allocation approaches, trended future requirements, operating forecasts, sources and uses, etc. Generates, modifies, and conceives of new financial or other resource reports, strategic planning and modeling, analyzing and forecasting staff/faculty salary budgets, contracts, grants, F&A, initial complement/start‑up, gifts, endowments, or user fees, and making recommendations for maximizing financial or other resource outcomes.

    Provides analytical support for highly complex budget, financial, and resource projects dealing directly with major department managers and/or outside constituents. [10%]
  • Performs complex financial or resource research and studies for both internal department and external constituents. Includes periodic financial reports, staff/faculty salary budgets, contracts, grants, gifts, endowments, or user fees. Analysis may include budgetary analysis, financial analysis, forecasts, projections, staff or faculty salary or FTE analysis, student enrollment analysis, recharge or general rate analysis (parking rates, copier rates, capital project rates, student health charges), student fees (self‑supporting programs, professional school fees, course material fees, etc.),

    contracts and grants analysis, endowment income, fungibility of funds, working capital, depreciation, new building funds, etc. [10%]
  • Reviews and approves advanced financial transactions. Assists with audits. [10%]
  • Coordinates gathering of budgetary and resource requirements information during planning stages, such as the annual budget process. [5%]
  • Trains staff and maintains an effective team environment. Other duties as assigned. [5%]
  • Develops and makes recommendations on internal policy/procedural changes that affect functional area. [5%]
  • Makes recommendations on maintaining and strengthening internal controls to protect University resources. Performs ledger reconciliations and reviews financial and payroll data for accuracy. [5%]

  • Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. (Required)
