Job Description & How to Apply Below

The Riverside County Code Enforcement Department has an opportunity for a Code Enforcement Officer I assigned to the Special Enforcement Team (SET) located in Riverside.

The Code Enforcement Officer I performs both field and office work to ensure compliance with land use ordinances and related code provisions. The incumbent will confer with residents, business representatives, and other parties regarding the nature of municipal codes and ordinances to encourage compliance. Additionally, the Code Enforcement Officer I will investigate and report on complaints, issue warnings and citations, and perform other related duties as required.

Competitive candidates will possess knowledge and experience in state laws, municipal and County codes and ordinances governing land use and zoning; addressing illegal vending; and investigative techniques, including interviewing and fact-finding related to code and ordinance compliance. Certification as a Code Enforcement Officer from a state-recognized organization is highly desired.

This role may require travel to Palm Springs and Temecula locations and may operate on a rotating 9/80 schedule that includes nights and weekends.

The Code Enforcement Officer I is the entry-level classification in the Code Enforcement Officer series and reports to the Supervising Code Enforcement Officer. Incumbents perform the more routine investigative and compliance work while acquiring the training and skills necessary to perform the full range of code compliance activities.

The Code Enforcement Officer I is a natural progression underfill for the Code Enforcement Officer II. Incumbents are eligible to promote to the Code Enforcement Officer II level upon successful completion of their probationary period, which would include a satisfactory performance evaluation and any additional qualification requirements.
