Position Overview
The Riverside University Health System's Behavioral Health Department is seeking multiple Bilingual and Non-Bilingual Certified Peer Support Specialists/Trainees to serve consumers across several locations in Riverside County.
This posting will be used to fill current and future vacancies in Consumer openings. Candidates must have personal recovery experience from mental health or substance abuse for at least one year.
Responsibilities Peer Support Specialist Trainee Responsibilities- Provide meaningful self-disclosure of personal lived experience to the people served in the system of care (required by State Certification).
- Inform, train, support, and empower consumers, families, and caregivers who directly or indirectly receive behavioral health services.
- Communicate, represent, and promote the consumer, families, and caregivers' perspective within the behavioral health system.
- Facilitate self-help groups for consumers, youth, family members, and caregivers.
- Attend and participate in special events, conferences, workshops, and trainings within the behavioral health system and the community.
- Develop activities, programs, and resources to support consumers and families in achieving their goals.
- Assist in recognition and understanding of social and cultural factors in the provision of behavioral health services.
- Build effective working relationships with agencies and organizations to advocate for consumer, family, and caregiver empowerment.
- Help prepare and support clients and families at consumer progress consultation meetings and formal/informal hearings.
- Help consumers articulate their needs and maintain client documentation following Medi-Cal billing practices.

- Help consumers articulate their needs and maintain client documentation following Medi-Cal billing practices.
- Possession of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Recovery experience as a consumer of behavioral health and/or substance abuse services, or as a family member/caregiver of a current or former consumer.
- Medi-Cal Peer Support Certification required within two (2) years of start date; ongoing re-certification every two (2) years.
- Valid California Driver's License may be required.
- Knowledge of community services available to diverse consumers and their families.
- Ability to represent and advocate for the consumer perspective within agencies and the community.
- Strong communication skills and ability to establish working relationships with community agencies.
Peer Support Specialist Trainee: $18.69 – $25.62 per hour.
Certified Peer Support Specialist: $22.41 – $30.50 per hour.
Requirements for CertificationState certification (California Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification) must be obtained and maintained. Failure to maintain certification may result in termination.
