Recreation Center Fitness Coordinator (40 Hours/11 Months)
Coordinate group fitness and instructional programming that reflects the Christian values of California Baptist University.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Responsible for the administration of fitness and instructional programming.
- Create and maintain a comprehensive and robust schedule consisting of diverse fitness classes and one‑on‑one personal training.
- Assist in the recruitment, employment, training, supervision, and evaluation of personal trainers, graduate assistants, and student workers.
- Instruct fitness and wellness classes/workshops and assist in fitness events.
- Strategically market and promote personal training, individual fitness, and instructional programs and events.
- Study industry trends and determine feasibility of programs for the CBU community.
- Provide fitness and wellness advice to members of the campus community.
- Assist in facility and equipment maintenance.
- Assist in the execution of regular health and safety inspections.
- Assist in coordinating the purchase and inventory of equipment.
- Assess campus community use, satisfaction, and the overall effectiveness of programs, services, and facilities.
- Maintain scheduled office hours, with the requirement of a flexible schedule of availability at night and on weekends.
This position could be responsible for assigning work and/or giving direction to part‑time student workers, in order to complete work assignments.

- Ability to coordinate and organize meetings and/or special events.
- Knowledge of standard budgeting and expenditure control procedures and documentation.
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
- Knowledge of general accounting principles.
- Ability to develop and maintain record‑keeping systems and procedures.
- Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns.
- Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; and requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate fitness equipment, computer keyboard or other office equipment. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person or over the phone.
Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Requires regular physical activity; the employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, stand and/or walk for more than six (6) hours per day. Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work normally performed in fitness/recreational center and a typical interior/office work environment, with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards.
Education and/or ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Recreation Management, Sports Management, or related field OR Certification from a preferred association (ACE, NASM, NSCA, ACSM, ACE, or AFFA); and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
