Who

are we hiring?

The Kansas City Current are seeking a full‑time Physical Therapist to provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to our athletes. This role is primarily responsible for managing mid to late‑stage rehabilitation as athletes transition from injuries. You will work closely with our physical therapists and other medical and performance team to best transition athletes back to unrestricted sports participation. This role will collaborate with the medical staff and team physicians to assist in evaluation, treatment and early to mid‑stage rehab ensuring optimal progression and continuity of care across phases.

This position will report directly to the Head of Medical.

What will you do?
  • Provide Physical Therapy services to players in collaboration with the team’s existing medical and performance staff.
  • Demonstrate ability to provide holistic, individualized care within a multidisciplinary high‑performance environment, with an understanding of female athlete‑specific health considerations.
  • Support and oversee late‑stage return‑to‑play protocols, emphasizing sport‑specific demands, progressive loading, and performance readiness in collaboration with other members of the medical and performance staff.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete medical documentation within the NWSL Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Monitor players’ physical, mental, and psychological health through daily interactions and communicate concerns to appropriate medical or performance staff.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of injury prevention and return‑to‑play strategies.
  • Collaborate with medical, performance, and nutrition staff to support female athlete‑specific needs, including pelvic health, menstrual cycle considerations, and pregnancy/postpartum care when applicable.
  • Communicate effectively with coaches, performance staff, and other departments to support integrated player care.
  • Maintain and inventory medical supplies and clinical equipment.
  • Abide by all local, state, and federal laws and regulations governing physical therapy practice, as well as all NWSL and club medical policies, protocols, and reporting requirements.
  • Attend all league‑required meetings, educational programs, and activities.
  • Be available to travel with the team to provide medical coverage at practices and games as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Medical or that the league requires.
What do you need to succeed? Required
  • Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree.
  • Licensed Physical Therapist in the state of Missouri, in good standing with the state licensure board.
  • Current CPR certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience as a licensed Physical Therapist.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience working in a sports environment with elite‑level athletes (collegiate, professional, or Olympic).
  • Board Certified Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS).
  • Dry Needling Certified.
  • Maintains standard professional liability insurance.
Preferred
  • Soccer‑specific experience.
  • Previous experience working in a women’s sports environment.
  • Understanding of pelvic floor rehabilitation and its application to athletes.
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
  • Corrective Exercise Specialist (NASM‑CES) and/or Performance Enhancement Specialist (NASM‑PES).
