Overview

Transportation Security Officer (TSO) at Transportation Security Administration (TSA). This role involves providing security and protection of travelers across transportation sectors in a courteous and professional manner.

• Operate screening equipment and technology to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo and on passengers, and prevent objects from being transported onto aircraft.
• Perform searches and screenings, which may include physical interaction with passengers (e.g., pat-downs, search of property), conduct bag searches, and lift/carry bags, bins, and property weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Control terminal entry and exit points.
• Interact with the public, give directions, and respond to inquiries.
• Maintain focus and awareness in a stressful environment with alarms, machinery noise, crowd distractions, time pressure, and disruptive passengers to identify threats and make effective decisions.
• Engage in continuous development of critical thinking to mitigate security threats, including applying risk-based security screening protocols that vary by program requirements.
• Retain and implement knowledge of applicable Standard Operating Procedures and adapt to new information or obstacles.

Salary range for Riverton, WY (RIW - Central Wyoming Regional Airport): $45,649 to $56,282 or $21.87 to $26.97 per hour, including locality pay of 17.06%.

Sign-on Bonus:
Up to $2,000 for this duty location; paid in two installments during the first 12 months of service. Bonus amount is subject to change or elimination based on operational needs and will be communicated during the final job offer process.

This Transportation Security Officer position is located in Transportation Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

• You must possess U.S. Citizenship or be a U.S. National.
• You must have reached the minimum age (18) at the time of application.

• Ability to repeatedly lift and manipulate baggage weighing approximately 50 pounds and other objects.
• Ability to walk up to three miles during a shift and stand for extended periods (up to 4 hours).

To qualify for the SV-D pay band (equivalent to GS-5/6), you must meet one of the following:

• Experience:
  
  At least one year of full-time work experience in the security industry, aviation screening, or as an X-ray technician.

OR

• Education:
  
  High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or TASC high school equivalency certificate.

Credit for experience is based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio. National Service and volunteer experience can count toward qualifying experience.
