Must have a very good knowledge of cement, cementitious, raw materials, or concrete admixtures (CEMEX materials) to support operations in improving product performance, troubleshooting quality problems, improving manufacturing processes, and developing improved products. The senior Chemist/Engineer supports technical service managers through laboratory work to solve field-related issues.
Job Responsibilities- Take charge of own safety in day-to-day activities.
- Perform chemical tests on CEMEX materials including XRF, XRD, micros copies, laser PSD, etc.
- Supervise physical testing of the materials, requiring good knowledge of the tests.
- Ensure accuracy of junior staff work.
- Train junior staff on CEMEX material matters.
- Bachelor’s in chemistry, engineering, or related field.
- Master’s or PhD in any CEMEX materials area is ideal.
- Professional certification not required.
- 6 years required in CEMEX materials; can be reduced if postgraduate studies in the area.
- Specialized knowledge of CEMEX materials, manufacturing processes, chemistry, and performance.
- Analytical skills to promote solvency on complex problems.
- Ability to develop new testing methods and research literature on relevant matters.
- Ability to set up complex equipment and develop testing procedures.
- Promotes teamwork, communicates with other CEMEX labs or scientific institutions.
- Creates and corrects reports in a timely manner, mentors and teaches other staff.
- Can represent CTC in outside meetings, direct exempt employee work, and interact with CEMEX directors without supervision.
Mostly indoors in a temperature-controlled environment.
Physical Requirements- Requires working in dusty conditions at times.
- Requires walking, sitting, lifting; may exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.
- Job involves mostly sitting but may involve brief walking or standing.
- Regularly required to talk and hear to communicate with customers.
