Job Summary

The Asphalt Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising asphalt paving operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of road construction works. The role oversees asphalt production, paving activities, quality control, resource planning, and compliance with project specifications, Saudi MOT requirements, and HSE standards while ensuring projects are completed on schedule.

Technical Requirements

The candidate shall have proven experience in:

  • Execution of asphalt paving works for Base, Binder, Leveling, and Wearing Courses.
  • Paving Plan preparation as per site conditions
  • Planning and execution of paving activities in accordance with project schedules.
  • Asphalt mix design knowledge, including Superpave, PMB, SMA, RAP, and conventional asphalt mixes.
  • Prime Coat, Tack Coat, and bond coat application.
  • Operation and coordination of asphalt plants and production planning.
  • Compaction using steel drum, pneumatic tyre, and intelligent compaction rollers.
  • Preparation and implementation of paving methodologies for highways, urban roads, airports, and steep-gradient roads.
  • Asphalt paving at junctions, roundabouts, confined areas, and utility reinstatement works.
  • Planning of paving sequences to minimize longitudinal and transverse joints.
  • Management of asphalt temperature from plant to final compaction.
  • Coordination of haulage logistics and truck cycle times.
Quality Control Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications and Saudi MOT requirements.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC teams for inspections and approvals.
  • Monitor asphalt temperatures during loading, transport, laying, and compaction.
  • Review asphalt plant production reports and delivery tickets.
  • Monitor paving thickness, levels, crossfall, and surface tolerances.
  • Coordinate field and laboratory testing, including density, core sampling, Marshall/Superpave verification, and smoothness requirements.
  • Review ITPs, Method Statements, Inspection Requests (IRs), and quality documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with IRI, ride quality, and surface finish requirements where applicable.
Planning & Reporting
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly work plans.
  • Monitor productivity, equipment utilization, and manpower performance.
  • Prepare daily progress reports and production summaries.
  • Coordinate material requirements and equipment mobilization.
  • Identify constraints and implement mitigation plans to maintain project schedules.
Equipment Knowledge

The candidate should have practical knowledge of:

  • Asphalt batching plants.
  • Material transfer vehicles (MTVs) and feeders.
  • Pneumatic tyre rollers.
  • Milling machines.
  • Survey equipment (Total Station, GPS, Auto Level).
HSE Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with company HSE procedures.
  • Conduct toolbox talks before paving activities.
  • Coordinate traffic control and work zone safety.
  • Ensure safe operation of paving equipment and heavy vehicles.
  • Promote safe work practices and incident prevention.
Minimum Experience & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years of proven experience in asphalt paving works in major road, highway, airport projects.
  • Experience in KSA also GCC is preferred.
  • Membership with the Saudi Engineering Council (SEC) is preferred.
Software Skills
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • AutoCAD.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and coordination abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Good understanding of asphalt construction best practices and quality management.
