The Assistant Contracts Manager will support contract administration across major infrastructure and construction packages within a complex PMO environment. The position requires detailed interpretation of contractual obligations, early identification of entitlement issues, accurate assessment of changes, and disciplined management of correspondence, claims, securities, and commercial records. The role also connects contractual requirements with practical site delivery. By coordinating closely with engineering, construction, procurement, legal, and cost management teams, the Assistant Contracts Manager will help ensure decisions are commercially sound, contractually compliant, and properly documented.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor consultant, designer, contractor, and related party compliance with contractual obligations and project requirements.
- Review progress information and identify potential contractual concerns affecting delivery.
- Coordinate with site teams to establish practical and contractual measures for maintaining compliance.
- Advise project personnel on specific contract requirements and performance obligations.
- Assess the contractual consequences of site decisions before actions are implemented.
- Review incoming and outgoing contractual correspondence involving consultants and contractors.
- Prepare or support clear contractual responses, notices, recommendations, and management advice.
- Maintain trackers for bonds, guarantees, securities, early warnings, claims, notices, and contractual actions.
- Monitor expiry dates and outstanding contractual requirements to prevent avoidable commercial exposure.
- Assess entitlement relating to variations, claims, extensions, additional costs, and other contractual events.
- Recommend practical solutions based on contract provisions, supporting records, and project circumstances.
- Review consultant and contractor contract documents for obligations, risks, deliverables, and commercial requirements.
- Participate in contractor and consultant performance reviews.
- Evaluate performance against contractual milestones, responsibilities, and agreed deliverables.
- Advise project teams on compliance with applicable Tender and Procurement Law requirements.
- Support assessment of technical and financial tender submissions.
- Review procurement documentation from a contractual and commercial perspective.
- Ensure project changes are processed through approved contract change procedures.
- Assess directives, client instructions, design changes, omissions, additions, and revised scope requirements.
- Coordinate with relevant disciplines to establish the contractual and commercial impact of proposed changes.
- Review change documentation for completeness before formal approval or negotiation.
- Liaise with the PMO Cost Management team on Change Orders and related valuation matters.
- Assist in selecting appropriate valuation and reimbursement methodologies.
- Coordinate agreement of rates, quantities, valuation principles, and commercial adjustments with contractors.
