The Temporary Works Manager will provide the technical governance required to ensure temporary structures and construction support systems remain safe, stable, properly designed, and appropriately controlled throughout their use on the project. The position will oversee the full temporary works lifecycle, from identifying requirements and defining design briefs through independent checking, approval, installation, inspection, monitoring, modification, dismantling, and closeout. Because these systems support complex airport, airfield, structural, underground, utility, and heavy lifting activities, effective management will have a direct impact on construction safety, sequencing, productivity, and schedule reliability.
Key Responsibilities- Lead temporary works engineering and management activities across airport, airfield, infrastructure, structural, utility, and external works packages.
- Establish and maintain the project Temporary Works Management System, procedures, registers, governance controls, and approval workflows.
- Develop temporary works strategies covering design responsibility, review categories, checking requirements, inspection, monitoring, and safe removal.
- Identify temporary works requirements during planning, design development, construction sequencing, and site execution.
- Prepare and coordinate temporary works design briefs with project teams, specialist designers, consultants, and contractors.
- Confirm that design responsibility is clearly allocated for each temporary works package.
- Maintain an accurate Temporary Works Register covering status, risk classification, approvals, inspections, modifications, and closeout.
- Categorize temporary works according to risk and criticality and assign suitable checking and approval requirements.
- Review temporary works designs prepared by internal engineers, consultants, specialist subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Examine design calculations, drawings, specifications, design assumptions, loading criteria, construction methodology, and temporary condition assessments.
- Verify that temporary works designs account for construction loads, equipment loads, wind, vibration, environmental conditions, dynamic effects, and other relevant actions.
- Coordinate independent design checking for critical and high-risk temporary works.
- Ensure competent designers and checkers are appointed in accordance with approved project procedures.
- Review excavation support, shoring, temporary retaining systems, and temporary earth support arrangements.
- Provide technical assurance for scaffolding, formwork, falsework, propping, bracing, and structural steel temporary works.
- Review temporary bridges, platforms, access systems, working areas, temporary foundations, and equipment supports.
- Assess crane bases, working platforms, heavy lifting supports, and temporary arrangements associated with major plant and equipment installation.
- Review cofferdams, temporary drainage, water control systems, protection structures, and underground construction support.
- Coordinate temporary works for utility corridors, underground services, district cooling plants, and major infrastructure installations.
- Check compatibility between temporary works and permanent works to prevent clashes, instability, or unintended load transfer.
- Review constructability, installation sequence, practicality, accessibility, and dismantling methodology before approval.
- Coordinate temporary works requirements with Civil, Structural, MEP, Logistics, Construction, Planning, and HSE teams.
- Support temporary works associated with runway, taxiway, apron, road, drainage, utility, and airfield construction.
