The CAD Support specialist helps convert engineering concepts, markups, sketches, and technical instructions into accurate digital drawings and models used throughout the project lifecycle. Working with architects, engineers, designers, and multidisciplinary project teams, the role supports design development, model coordination, document control, and technical issue resolution. Accurate drafting and disciplined revision management are critical because project teams rely on controlled drawings and coordinated models for design decisions, construction planning, and technical communication.
Key Responsibilities- Create detailed 2D drawings, layouts, plans, sections, and technical details from sketches, markups, verbal instructions, and existing documentation.
- Develop accurate 3D models to support engineering and design requirements.
- Use AutoCAD, Revit, Solid Works, and other approved design platforms for assigned drafting activities.
- Translate engineering concepts and design information into clear technical deliverables.
- Apply appropriate drafting conventions, symbols, dimensions, annotations, and presentation standards.
- Review drawings for dimensional accuracy, completeness, and consistency before submission.
- Verify technical deliverables against project specifications, standards, and quality requirements.
- Identify drawing inconsistencies or missing information and coordinate clarification with responsible engineers or designers.
- Update drawings and models following design reviews, comments, and approved changes.
- Maintain revision history and ensure obsolete files are appropriately controlled.
BIM and model coordination responsibilities will support multidisciplinary integration.
- Prepare and update BIM models throughout design development and project delivery.
- Coordinate model information between architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and other project disciplines.
- Identify inconsistencies between drawings and models and raise coordination issues for resolution.
- Support multidisciplinary model reviews and design coordination activities.
- Maintain consistency between model revisions and associated technical drawings.
- Follow established BIM workflows and project modeling standards.
- Assist with implementation of approved design modifications across affected models and drawings.
- Support coordination of technical interfaces where multiple engineering disciplines overlap.
Document and file management will form an important part of the position.
- Maintain project drawings, models, and related technical records in an organised file structure.
- Apply established file naming, revision, storage, and retrieval procedures.
- Maintain version control to ensure project teams access the latest approved information.
- Organise technical documentation for efficient retrieval and future project reference.
- Support document control activities associated with drawing submissions and revisions.
- Keep accurate records of assigned deliverables and their current status.
- Provide regular updates on drafting tasks, outstanding information, and completion progress.
