Role Context

The Interior Design Engineer will translate architectural and interior design concepts into technically coordinated finish packages that can be procured, installed, inspected, and handed over successfully. The role combines design sensitivity with construction knowledge, requiring careful evaluation of appearance, durability, maintainability, code compliance, and installation requirements. Interior finishes influence both the visual quality and long‑term performance of a space. Accurate specifications, coordinated drawings, approved material samples, and well‑managed finish schedules will therefore be essential to preventing inconsistencies, procurement delays, installation defects, and costly rework.

The position also provides an important technical link between designers, architects, contractors, suppliers, and project managers. Through clear documentation and site‑based quality reviews, the engineer will help ensure that completed interiors reflect the approved design intent and required construction standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed interior finish specifications for commercial and residential projects.
  • Define materials, colors, textures, performance criteria, and installation requirements.
  • Prepare coordinated finish schedules for floors, walls, ceilings, and specialty surfaces.
  • Produce technical drawings and construction details using CAD and design software.
  • Translate design concepts into accurate documentation suitable for procurement and installation.
  • Research interior materials based on durability, aesthetics, cost, maintenance, and project suitability.
  • Evaluate paints, flooring systems, wall coverings, decorative finishes, and specialty materials.
  • Review material options against client expectations and project performance requirements.
  • Coordinate finish selections with architectural layouts and wider design packages.
  • Work closely with architects, designers, engineers, contractors, and consultants.
  • Identify conflicts between interior finish requirements and building systems or construction details.
  • Develop practical technical solutions to finish‑related design challenges.
  • Prepare and organize material sample boards, mock‑up requirements, and approval packages.
  • Review contractor material submissions against approved specifications.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to confirm technical properties, availability, and installation requirements.
  • Maintain current records of approved materials, samples, finishes, and substitutions.
  • Conduct site inspections to verify installed finishes against approved drawings and specifications.
  • Assess workmanship, alignment, color consistency, joints, transitions, and overall finish quality.
  • Identify non‑conforming installations and recommend corrective action.
  • Participate in mock‑up inspections and establish acceptable workmanship benchmarks.
  • Support snagging and closeout of interior finish defects.
