The Student Affairs Counselor plays a pivotal role in fostering a supportive and engaging environment for students. This position is responsible for providing guidance, support, and resources to enhance student well‑being and academic success. The counselor will collaborate with various departments to address student needs and promote a positive campus culture.
Key Responsibilities- Provide one‑on‑one counseling sessions to students facing academic, personal, or social challenges.
- Develop and implement programs that promote student engagement and retention.
- Serve as a liaison between students and academic departments to facilitate effective communication.
- Conduct workshops and seminars on topics such as stress management, time management, and career planning.
- Maintain accurate records of counseling sessions and student interactions in accordance with confidentiality standards.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to identify at‑risk students and provide appropriate interventions.
- Stay updated on campus resources and refer students to appropriate services as needed.
2‑5 years of experience in student affairs or a related field.
Preferred QualificationsExperience in crisis intervention and conflict resolution; familiarity with student development theory; previous experience in higher education settings.
Skills And Competencies- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse environment.
- Excellent problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
- Empathy and understanding of student issues.
- Proficiency in using counseling software and database management.
Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., LPC, LCSW) preferred.
