Director of the University Preparatory Program
University Preparatory Program – 1 position
Position purpose:
The Director of the Foundation Program provides academic and administrative leadership for the university’s preparatory year. The role ensures that the program effectively prepares newly admitted students with the English proficiency, academic skills, and foundational knowledge required to succeed in undergraduate studies. The Director is responsible for strategic planning, curriculum quality and delivery, faculty supervision, student performance monitoring, and alignment with university academic standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic and Academic Leadership:
Develop and implement the strategic plan for the Foundation Program; align the program with undergraduate college requirements; ensure the curriculum supports student transition; lead program development and innovation in teaching and learning. - Curriculum and Academic Quality:
Oversee design and review of foundation courses; ensure compliance with university regulations and national quality standards; lead program evaluation and continuous improvement; supervise placement testing and level assignment for new students. - Faculty Leadership and Management:
Recruit, supervise, and evaluate instructors; assign teaching loads and coordinate scheduling; support faculty development; promote effective teaching and integrity. - Student Success and Academic Support:
Monitor progression, retention, and pass rates; implement academic support for at-risk students; coordinate advising, tutoring, mentoring services; maintain a positive learning environment. - Administration and Operations:
Manage budgets and resources; oversee daily operations and staff; prepare academic reports; coordinate orientation and readiness programs. - Collaboration with Colleges:
Work with academic colleges to meet entry requirements and align foundation year with undergraduate programs; participate in university academic committees.
Qualifications
- Education:
PhD or Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics or English Language Teaching. - Experience:
10+ years of teaching in preparatory programs; 3–5 years in foundation program leadership. - Skills:
Academic leadership, curriculum development, higher education policy, faculty supervision, data-driven decision making, strong communication and organizational skills.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Student pass and progression rates;
English proficiency improvement; student retention and satisfaction; faculty performance and teaching effectiveness.
