Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Planning for outstanding teaching and learning by creating a climate conducive for outstanding practice.
  • Identifying clear teaching and learning objectives.
  • Setting tasks that challenge students and ensure high levels of interest.
  • Setting appropriate and demanding expectations.
  • Setting clear targets building on prior attainment.
  • Identifying SEN or very able students and ensuring that their needs are met through differentiation.
  • Providing clear lesson structures to maintain pace, motivation and challenge.
  • Making effective use of assessment for learning.
  • Making effective use of performance data and key indicators to inform planning and deliver differentiated lessons.
  • Maintaining discipline in accordance with the school’s Behaviour for Learning Policy and encouraging good practice regarding punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and homework.
  • Using a variety of teaching strategies to match approach to content and structure information, presenting key ideas and using appropriate vocabulary.
  • Using effective questioning, listening carefully to students and giving attention to errors and misconceptions.
  • Selecting appropriate learning resources and developing study skills through library, ICT and other learning technologies.
  • Reflecting on and evaluating own teaching to improve effectiveness.
Monitoring, Assessment, Recording and Reporting
  • Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use this to improve specific aspects of teaching.
  • Mark students’ work at least once every two weeks and set targets for progress.
  • Use performance data to inform planning, ensuring learning and teaching continue to add value.
  • Assess and record students’ progress systematically and keep records to confirm that work is understood and completed.
  • Monitor strengths and areas for development.
  • Inform planning and recognise the level at which each student is achieving.
  • Undertake assessment of students as requested by examination bodies, departmental and school procedures.
  • Prepare and present informative reports to parents.
