On behalf of our client, we are looking for Head of Homeroom Grade 1 and 2 to join their School.

Job Summary

Leadership in curriculum review and development, providing leadership and modeling for teachers in curriculum and lesson planning, leading weekly curriculum and assessment planning meetings, establishing aims and objectives for teaching, ensuring syllabuses and schemes of work implementation, and developing structures to ensure curriculum continuity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lesson planning, teaching and learning: planning for outstanding teaching and learning through creating a climate for learning that is conducive for outstanding practice; identifying clear teaching and learning objectives; setting tasks that challenge students and ensure high interest; setting appropriate and demanding expectations; setting clear targets, building on prior attainment; identifying SEN or very able students and ensuring their needs are met through differentiation;

    providing clear lesson structures that maintain pace, motivation and challenge; making effective use of assessment for learning; using performance data and key indicators to inform planning and thereby deliver differentiated lessons; maintaining discipline in accordance with the school’s ‘Behavior for Learning Policy’ and encouraging good practice regarding punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and homework; using a variety of teaching strategies to match approach to content, structure information, present a set of key ideas and use appropriate vocabulary;

    using effective questioning, listening carefully to students, giving attention to errors and misconceptions; selecting appropriate learning resources and developing study skills through library, I.C.T. and other learning; reflecting on and evaluating own teaching to improve effectiveness.
  • Monitoring, assessment, recording, reporting: assessing how well learning objectives have been achieved and using them to improve specific aspects of teaching; marking students’ work at least once every two weeks and setting targets for progress; using performance data to inform planning and thereby ensuring learning and teaching continue to ‘add value’; assessing and recording students’ progress systematically and keeping records to check that work is understood and completed;

    monitoring strengths and areas for development; informing planning and recognising the level at which the student is achieving; undertaking assessment of students as requested by examination bodies, departmental and school procedures; preparing and presenting informative reports to parents.
  • Curriculum development: taking part in subject development by producing, reviewing and updating curriculum plans and schemes of work; keeping subject knowledge up‑to‑date through CPD and professional reading; attending professional development workshops as appropriate.
Other Professional Requirements
  • Operating at all times within the stated policies and practices of the school.
  • Establishing effective working relationships with colleagues and setting an outstanding example to stakeholders through personal and professional conduct.
  • Taking part in the extra‑curricular programme by offering at least one after‑school activity each term.
  • Contributing to the wider life of the school through effective participation in meetings, marketing and liaison activities such as open evenings, parents evenings and events with partner schools.
  • Undertaking staff duties in line with the duty rota, exam invigilation duties as required and covering for absent colleagues as required.
  • Undertaking additional duties as required by the principal or head of department as appropriate.
Requirements
  • Bachelor degree in a relevant field is required.
  • Minimum of 2–5 years experience.
  • Competence in using computers and the capability to effectively integrate technology into teaching.
  • Teaching licence is required.
  • Demonstrating the ability to relate to students, professional staff, parents/guardians and members of the wider school community.
