Role overview:

The Project Engineer – Dark Stores Fit-Out will be responsible for the end-to-end execution of dark store projects, including site readiness, fit-out works, contractor management, quality control, cost verification, and final handover to internal stakeholders.

This role ensures that dark stores are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with approved layouts, specifications, and safety standards.

The Project Engineer will work closely with design, procurement, operations, finance, and external vendors to ensure smooth project delivery and operational readiness.

Job scope:

Project Execution & Fit-Out

  • Execute dark store fit-out works including civil, MEP, refrigeration, racking, IT, and signage
  • Ensure works are carried out as per approved drawings, BOQs, and technical specifications
  • Monitor site progress, schedules, and milestones
  • Coordinate site readiness, access, utilities, and mobilization
  • Manage and coordinate multiple contractors and vendors
  • Conduct regular site meetings to track progress, quality, and safety
  • Ensure contractors comply with scope, timelines, and quality standards
  • Resolve on-site issues, variations, and technical clarifications

Layout Review & Approvals

  • Review dark store layouts and drawings for constructability and operational efficiency
  • Coordinate with design, operations, and compliance teams for required approvals
  • Ensure layouts meet operational flow, storage capacity, and safety requirements
  • Maintain control of approved drawings and revisions

Quality Control & Safety

  • Conduct regular site inspections and quality checks
  • Identify defects and ensure timely rectification and snag closure
  • Ensure compliance with company standards, safety norms, and local regulations
  • Review contractor and vendor invoices against approved BOQs and contracts
  • Verify work completion before invoice certification
  • Review and validate variation claims
  • Coordinate with finance and procurement teams for payment processing
  • Oversee testing and commissioning of MEP systems, refrigeration, and equipment
  • Ensure all systems are fully functional before store launch
  • Coordinate final readiness for operations

Handover & Stakeholder Management

  • Own the final handover of completed stores to internal stakeholders
  • Prepare and submit handover documents (as-built drawings, warranties, manuals, asset lists)
  • Conduct joint inspections and walkthroughs with stakeholders
  • Obtain final sign-off and support early operations if required

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain complete project documentation and records
  • Provide regular project status updates and reports
  • Capture lessons learned and improvement opportunities

What you'll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 3–7 years of experience in retail, warehouse, or dark store fit-out projects.
  • Hands-on experience managing site execution, contractors, and handover processes.
  • Familiarity with MEP systems, store layouts, and operational requirements is preferred.
