Role Overview
The Design Technical Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating all design related activities from the early project stages through construction delivery. The role ensures that the design is fully coordinated, buildable, compliant with contractual and authority requirements, and translated into high quality shop drawings, material submittals, and method statements. The position acts as the single technical focal point between the Client, Consultants, Authorities, and BESIX internal teams, ensuring that design intent is maintained while being optimized for constructability, safety, cost, and programme.
DesignManagement & Coordination
Lead the overall design coordination process across all disciplines:
Architectural, Structural, MEP and Specialist Systems. Manage interfaces between designers, specialist subcontractors and construction teams. Chair and structure design coordination meetings with consultants, client representatives and internal stakeholders. Ensure timely production, review and approval of all design deliverables in line with the Design Management Plan. Identify design risks early and drive resolution through technical workshops and alternative solutions. Ensure compliance with contract requirements, specifications, codes and local authority regulations.
Transition from Design to Construction – translate design intent into buildable solutions aligned with BESIX construction methodology. Lead constructability reviews and value engineering initiatives in collaboration with Construction, Planning and Commercial teams. Ensure that design outputs support the agreed construction sequence and site logistics.
Establish and manage the Shop Drawing, Material Submittal and Method Statement registers. Lead the preparation, review and coordination of Shop Drawings, Material Submittals and Technical Data Sheets, Method Statements and ITPs. Ensure consistency between the approved design shop drawings and on site execution. Coordinate inputs from specialist subcontractors and integrate them into the overall technical package.
Stakeholder & Authority ManagementAct as the primary technical interface with the Client, Consultants and Authorities. Manage technical approvals and authority submissions in coordination with permitting teams. Build credibility and trust with clients through technical expertise and structured communication.
Team Leadership & GovernanceLead and mentor project engineers and discipline leads. Define and implement the Project Design Management Plan (DMP). Set clear priorities, deliverables and deadlines for the design team. Ensure compliance with BESIX governance, quality systems and reporting standards.
QualificationsBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, or a related construction discipline. 12–15 years of experience in large‑scale construction projects, ideally within Design & Build or Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) environments. Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary design teams on complex, high-profile projects (e.g., stadiums, museums, high-rise developments). Strong background in:
- Coordinating Architectural, Structural, and MEP design deliverables
- Overseeing shop drawing production and approval workflows
- Managing material submittals, technical data evaluations, and approval processes
- Prior experience in the Middle East, with solid knowledge of local authority regulations, permitting procedures, and submission requirements
