Job Description Overview
The Environment & Sustainability Expert is responsible for the Management and oversite of the Operations and Maintenance Contractors (OMC) Environmental Management System, ensuring environmental compliance and driving sustainability initiatives across metro operations and maintenance activities. The role supports safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operations aligned with regulatory, contractual, and ESG requirements.
Your role Environmental Compliance- Management and oversite of the OMC compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and contractual obligations.
- Implement and maintain Environmental Management Systems (EMS) in line with ISO 14001.
- Manage environmental permits, licenses, and reporting requirements.
- Conduct environmental inspections, audits, and compliance assessments.
- Oversee the development and implementation of sustainability strategies for O&M operations
- Support initiatives related to:
- Energy efficiency and conservation.
- Water management.
- Waste reduction and recycling.
- Support decarbonization and carbon reduction targets.
- Promote sustainable practices across metro operations.
- Track environmental KPIs (energy, emissions, waste, water usage).
- Prepare environmental and sustainability reports for client and stakeholders.
- Support ESG disclosures aligned with frameworks such as GRI or similar.
- Maintain environmental data systems and dashboards.
- Review OMC documentation relating to environmental issues.
- Ensure environmental controls during maintenance and operational activities
- Oversee:
- Hazardous material handling and disposal.
- Spill prevention and response.
- Noise, vibration, and air quality management.
- Supervise depot, station, and track maintenance teams on environmental compliance.
- Identify environmental risks and recommend mitigation measures.
- Investigate environmental incidents and support the implementation of corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain environmental emergency response plans.
- Liaise with environmental authorities, regulators, and external stakeholders.
- Support client sustainability objectives and reporting needs.
- Collaborate with internal teams (HSE, Operations, Engineering, Maintenance).
- Conduct environmental training and awareness programs.
- Promote sustainability culture across workforce and contractors.
- Bachelor’s, Master’s degree, or relevant demonstratable experience in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or related field.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience.
- 3-5 years in metro, rail, or large infrastructure O&M projects.
- Proven experience in environmental compliance and sustainability programs.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
- Experience with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
- Familiarity with ESG reporting frameworks (GRI, TCFD, etc.).
- Carbon foot printing and sustainability metrics.
- Data analysis and reporting tools (Excel, Power BI preferred).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
