Key Responsibilities- Review and assess concrete mix designs to confirm compliance with project specifications, performance requirements, durability needs, and construction conditions.
- Evaluate contractor-selected materials, construction products, and testing procedures to ensure alignment with project requirements and industry standards.
- Conduct design reviews, technical investigations, inspections, and testing-related assessments for construction materials and workmanship.
- Recommend suitable materials for specific engineering and construction applications based on performance, durability, sustainability, and site requirements.
- Assess material characteristics including strength, durability, environmental resistance, corrosion behavior, chemical exposure resistance, sustainability impact, and electrical conductivity where relevant.
- Review proposed material substitutions and compare technical properties to determine feasibility, compliance, and acceptability.
- Assess the impact of new standards and updates to existing standards on project materials, testing procedures, and construction practices.
- Identify non-conforming materials, defective workmanship, failed test results, and quality concerns, then ensure corrective actions are implemented and closed.
- Maintain quality records related to materials, testing, supplier approvals, non-conformances, inspections, and corrective action tracking.
- Provide technical guidance to project teams regarding material performance, test results, specification requirements, and construction-related material issues.
- Review and approve contractor quality plans, inspection procedures, material approval requests, test reports, and material-related documentation.
- Assess environmental considerations linked to materials, construction products, waste management, sustainability targets, and lifecycle performance.
- Review material test results for resistance to heat, corrosion, chemical exposure, weathering, settlement effects, and other environmental conditions.
- Prepare technical reports, material evaluations, supplier assessments, compliance reviews, and recommendations for project leadership.
- Develop and manage supplier audit programs and conduct supplier quality audits when required.
- Provide site support for material failures, concrete cracking, surface defects, settlement issues, earthworks performance concerns, and specification deviations.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, geotechnical, quality, construction, procurement, and contractor teams to resolve material-related issues.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying recurring defects, testing trends, supplier performance issues, and opportunities for better material selection.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in the design, selection, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and quality assurance of construction materials.
- Experience working on major civil, infrastructure, heavy construction, rail, metro, transit, or transportation projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, material testing methodologies, inspection requirements, and quality assurance processes.
- Good understanding of international standards, construction specifications, and material engineering requirements.
- Experience reviewing concrete mix designs, earthworks materials, construction products, supplier submissions, and material compliance documentation.
- Ability to assess durability, sustainability, environmental resistance, material substitutions, test failures, and workmanship-related issues.
- Experience conducting supplier audits and material quality assessments in large-scale project environments is advantageous.
- Knowledge of rail, metro, transit, or transportation systems engineering principles is preferred.
