Role ContextThe Structural Lead Engineer will provide technical oversight for complex structural systems forming part of a large aviation development. The position combines design assurance with construction-stage engineering, ensuring that structural solutions remain safe, practical, durable, coordinated, and suitable for long‑term airport operations. The engineer will act as a central technical link between structural consultants, contractors, architects, civil teams, building services disciplines, airfield specialists, and project leadership.
Early identification of structural risks, interface conflicts, and constructability concerns will help protect program schedules, control design changes, and reduce costly site rework.
- Lead structural design reviews and technical assessments for airport buildings, transportation structures, and associated infrastructure.
- Provide engineering direction to structural engineers, consultants, contractors, and multidisciplinary design teams.
- Establish consistent structural review criteria and maintain compliance with project specifications, contractual requirements, and approved engineering standards.
- Review structural calculations, analysis reports, finite element models, specifications, drawings, and technical submissions.
- Assess reinforced concrete, structural steel, composite, precast, foundation, and retaining structure designs.
- Evaluate structural solutions for passenger terminals, concourses, cargo facilities, maintenance buildings, control facilities, utility structures, bridges, tunnels and airfield support assets.
- Review deep foundations and complex structural systems for capacity, durability, serviceability, and construction practicality.
- Lead constructability assessments before critical structural packages proceed to site.
- Support value engineering exercises that improve structural efficiency without compromising safety, performance, durability, or operational requirements.
- Evaluate proposed design alternatives for impacts on cost, schedule, material quantities, and construction methodology.
- Coordinate structural interfaces with Architecture, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, ICT, Utilities, Security, Baggage Handling, and Airfield disciplines.
- Resolve structural conflicts affecting terminals, runways, taxiways, aircraft aprons, utility corridors, and operational buildings.
- Participate in BIM coordination, model reviews, clash detection workshops, and multidisciplinary engineering sessions.
- Track structural interface issues and drive timely technical resolution with responsible disciplines.
- Provide engineering support during construction, erection, installation, temporary works, and project completion activities.
- Review contractor shop drawings, temporary works proposals, method statements, RFIs, and material submissions.
- Evaluate construction sequences where structural stability or temporary support requirements require specialist attention.
- Conduct site inspections to verify structural works against approved drawings, specifications, and engineering requirements.
- Resolve field conditions and technical issues that could affect structural integrity, workmanship, progress, or constructability.
- Review proposed structural modifications and determine their implications for safety, performance, schedule, and cost.
- Coordinate technical matters with the client, airport authorities, consultants, contractors, utility providers, and regulatory organizations.
- Support design approvals, engineering submissions, authority reviews, and technical clarifications.
