The Traffic Engineer will support the planning and technical delivery of transportation improvements across a major Riyadh highway and infrastructure portfolio. The position combines analytical traffic engineering with practical design responsibilities, requiring traffic demand and operational findings to be converted into safe, coordinated, and buildable solutions. Working within a PMO and multidisciplinary engineering environment, the role will contribute to better intersection performance, traffic safety, network efficiency, construction traffic management, and long-term highway operations.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and review traffic signal, junction, temporary traffic works, and associated traffic engineering designs.
- Prepare traffic engineering plans covering signals, signing, road markings, intersection concepts, and ITS infrastructure.
- Define technical scopes for traffic engineering assignments and contribute to schedules, budgets, resource requirements, and delivery planning.
- Monitor engineering tasks against agreed milestones and identify issues that could affect technical delivery.
- Conduct traffic studies using accepted traffic engineering methodologies and recognized modeling practices.
- Analyze traffic volumes, capacity, queues, delays, intersection performance, and operational conditions.
- Apply HCS, Trans Modeler, Synchro, and Sim Traffic as appropriate for traffic analysis and operational assessments.
- Translate traffic study results into practical recommendations for highway, intersection, and traffic control improvements.
- Develop traffic management concepts that maintain safe and efficient vehicle movements during construction activities.
- Coordinate with roadway engineers, surveyors, designers, and other technical specialists to integrate traffic requirements into infrastructure designs.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to resolve geometric, operational, safety, and traffic control interfaces.
- Develop technical approaches for traffic engineering studies and design assignments.
- Review calculations, models, reports, drawings, and technical outputs produced by consultants or other engineering teams.
- Review third-party traffic designs and consolidate technical comments required for approval.
- Verify that traffic engineering deliverables comply with applicable design criteria, project requirements, and recognized standards.
- Apply relevant traffic operations principles and guidance including ITE, MUTCD, AASHTO, and other applicable transportation standards.
- Support ITS design activities and coordination with highway systems and traffic operations requirements.
