Role ContextThe Lead Civil Engineer will provide technical authority across the civil and structural scope of a major airport infrastructure program. The position requires leadership from design development through technical coordination and construction support, ensuring that permanent and temporary works are safe, buildable, durable, and compatible with airport operational requirements. Effective leadership in this role will reduce design conflicts, control engineering risk, and maintain coordinated delivery across complex airside and landside assets.
Key Responsibilities- Lead civil and structural engineering design across airport infrastructure packages and establish consistent technical standards for the engineering team.
- Direct engineering activities covering terminals, runways, pavements, bridges, utilities, airside facilities, landside infrastructure, and associated structures.
- Oversee preparation and technical review of calculations, specifications, drawings, design reports, and engineering deliverables.
- Confirm that civil and structural solutions satisfy project requirements, design criteria, applicable codes, and construction constraints.
- Manage structural analysis and design for permanent and temporary works, including critical load-bearing infrastructure.
- Evaluate structural performance considering loading, durability, seismic effects, environmental exposure, ground conditions, and operational requirements.
- Provide technical direction on structural integrity issues and resolve complex engineering challenges before they affect construction.
- Coordinate civil and structural design with architecture, MEP, transportation, environmental, geotechnical, and other engineering disciplines.
- Lead multidisciplinary design coordination meetings and drive resolution of clashes, interface issues, and conflicting technical requirements.
- Ensure civil and structural interfaces are properly incorporated into coordinated design packages.
- Establish engineering schedules and monitor design progress against key project milestones and budget requirements.
- Review consultant and contractor engineering submissions for technical adequacy, constructability, compliance, and quality.
- Monitor engineering performance and implement corrective measures where design activities fall behind program or technical expectations.
- Liaise with relevant authorities and support technical approvals, permits, and regulatory submissions.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable Saudi Arabian requirements and relevant international civil and structural engineering standards.
- Integrate sustainability considerations into engineering solutions where technically and operationally appropriate.
- Establish quality control procedures for civil and structural design deliverables.
- Lead technical design reviews, audits, and engineering assessments throughout project development.
- Identify design and construction risks associated with site conditions, structural systems, materials, interfaces, and construction methodologies.
- Coordinate appropriate mitigation actions and track critical engineering risks through resolution.
- Apply BIM processes and advanced engineering technologies to improve multidisciplinary coordination and design quality.
- Provide senior technical input during construction, testing, commissioning, and infrastructure handover where required.
- Mentor civil and structural engineers and promote disciplined technical review and knowledge sharing within the team.
- Prepare engineering reports and presentations for project leadership, clients, authorities, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain organized and traceable technical documentation suitable for formal review and project audits.
- Bachelor 's or Master 's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
