The Environmental Health and Safety Manager will provide technical leadership for environmental, occupational health, and workplace safety activities across assigned projects. The role requires independent judgment when interpreting regulatory requirements, assessing hazards, investigating incidents, and developing practical risk-control measures. By maintaining robust ES&H systems and strengthening preventive safety practices, the manager will help reduce incidents, improve workforce protection, and maintain compliance throughout project execution.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, implement, maintain, and continually improve environmental, safety, and occupational health programs and procedures.
- Monitor project activities for compliance with established ES&H requirements, regulatory obligations, and approved safety standards.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable government agency requirements and provide technical interpretation to project teams.
- Identify workplace hazards and evaluate associated safety, occupational health, and environmental risks.
- Develop mitigation measures and recommend improvements to work processes, designs, procedures, and operating equipment.
- Conduct structured risk assessments and ensure appropriate preventive and corrective controls are implemented.
- Investigate accidents, injuries, near misses, complaints, and reported workplace hazards using recognized investigation methodologies.
- Perform root cause analysis and translate investigation findings into corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor workplace conditions to reduce exposure to occupational hazards, unsafe practices, and work-related illness.
- Develop emergency preparedness procedures and coordinate exercises, response planning, and readiness activities.
- Design and deliver employee safety training covering relevant hazards, procedures, controls, and emergency responsibilities.
- Evaluate the effectiveness and quality of ES&H programs through inspections, reviews, audits, performance data, and field observations.
- Prepare technical reports and communicate regulatory, risk, incident, and compliance findings to project leadership.
- Provide specialist advice to engineering, construction, operations, and project management personnel on complex ES&H matters.
- Lead or coordinate environmental, safety, and health specialists and supporting personnel when assigned.
- Administer ES&H requirements across project activities while maintaining accurate compliance and safety documentation.
- Promote preventive risk management by identifying emerging safety concerns before they develop into incidents or operational disruption.
Candidates should have at least 18 years of progressive professional experience in environmental, safety, occupational health, or closely related disciplines and hold a bachelor 's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or a related field. Current Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist certification is required. Candidates should demonstrate advanced capability in regulatory compliance, hazard identification, risk assessment, accident investigation, root cause analysis, safety program development, and technical reporting.
