Supervisor, Cytology Lab – Building 20

Location: Riyadh facility, Building No. 20, KFSHRC.

Summary: Supervises operations of a designated Laboratory of Cytology. Ensures that standards of quality and efficiency are maintained in accordance with policy and objectives.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Manages, plans, organizes, and monitors operations of the section. Supervises daily work activities of technical and administrative staff.
  • Effectively measures, manages, and reports section productivity and recommends resource allocation adjustments.
  • Effectively incorporates budget process and manages budget allocated to section. Minimizes total sectional costs and operates within budget constraints. Performs periodic cost analyses to minimize costs per test.
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining efficient operation of the Laboratory Information System (LIS) as it pertains to the section.
  • Maintains an effective supply order/inventory system. Ensures optimum levels of supplies are continuously available to provide uninterrupted services.
  • Fully manage lab aspects of all equipment contracts (service, GPPRR, etc.) in assigned section and ensures vendor and assigned section are in compliance with all contractual terms.
  • Prepares microscopic slides from specimens of scrapings, or other exudates, and fixes them. Stains and mounts slides to preserve specimen and enhance visibility of cells under the microscope.
  • Studies under the microscope cells of human body to detect evidence of cellular abnormalities including hormonal abnormalities and other pathological conditions according to established standards and practices. Reports abnormalities to the pathologists.
  • Assists in FNA procedures by evaluating the cellular adequacy of specimens obtained from patients including those obtained under radiological guidance (ultrasounds and CT).
  • Assists department head in developing and recommending new methodologies, evaluating, and recommending new equipment and participating in research projects. Maintains department’s policy and procedures in accordance with established standards.
  • Develops and maintains state‑of‑the‑art quality control and quality improvement programs within the section in accordance with College of American Pathologists (CAP), CBAHI, JCI, and SFDA standards. Participates in and contributes to quality improvement activities. Provides quality improvement reports.
  • Follows up all incident reports involving the section by providing appropriate action and a written response in accordance with laboratory/Hospital policy. Maintains equipment problem log files and equipment operation, maintenance and repair records.
  • Participates and assists with the development of training programs. Ensures that residents, assigned staff, and other relevant Hospital personnel receive appropriate orientation, training, and access to continuing education.
  • Participates in self and others’ education, training, and development, as applicable.
  • Follows all Hospital’s related policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Job Requirements:
    • Education:

      Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Sciences required.
    • Experience:
      • Grade 10:
        Four (4) years of related experience with Master’s or six (6) years with Bachelor’s Degree, including two (2) years in a supervisory/Senior position required.
      • Grade 11:
        Four (4) years as Supervisor, Cytogenetics Lab at KFSH&RC, or related experience (Grade 10) required.
    • Average of annual performance appraisal at least (3.5) for the last four (4) years.
    • One hundred (100) hours of cumulative continued medical education (CME).
    • Other Requirements/

      Certifications:
      • Current Registration from country of origin and Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS) required.
      • Registration as Cytotechnologist with Certification by internationally recognized body as CT(ASCP) or CT(IAC), AIMLS, FILMS, AIMS, NZIMLT, or equivalent in country of origin required.
