Director – Cloud Architecture

The job holder is responsible for leading the design, planning, and implementation of the multi-cloud, hybrid, and sovereign cloud ecosystem that will power Expo 2030 Riyadh. The role ensures scalable, secure, and resilient cloud foundations that support all digital platforms, smart‑city systems, AI/ML services, mobility solutions, IoT, CCTV, event applications, and operational systems.

Responsibilities

• Design end-to-end cloud architecture across AWS, Azure, GCP, Alibaba Cloud, and Saudi sovereign cloud providers.
• Define hybrid/sovereign cloud models ensuring KSA data residency and compliance with NCA and CITC standards.
• Architect scalable infrastructure to support 40–50 million visitors over the event duration.
• Ensure real-time, zero-downtime, high-availability architecture for mission-critical services.
• Develop cloud cost optimization strategies, TCO models, and DR/BCP frameworks.

Smart-City & Advanced Technology Enablement

• Lead cloud architecture for smart-city platforms, digital twin, IoT, AI/ML, CCTV, mobility, and event systems.
• Define data ingestion, real-time analytics, and event-driven architecture for smart-city and mobility platforms.
• Ensure seamless integration between cloud platforms and on-site edge computing environments to support low-latency, mission-critical use cases.

Dev Ops, Automation & Delivery Enablement

• Oversee CI/CD pipelines, Dev Ops/Git Ops processes, and IaC (Terraform preferred).
• Develop high-level and low-level cloud architecture documents (HLD/LLD).

Cybersecurity & Compliance Integration

• Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to align with ISO, NIST, CSA CCM, and zero-trust principles.
• Ensure cloud architecture complies with KSA regulatory frameworks, including NCA ECC, NCA CCC, and CITC Cloud Security guidelines.
• Embed security-by-design into all cloud components, including IAM, encryption, workload protection, logging, and continuous monitoring.

Stakeholder Management & Governance

• Work with internal departments, PMO, operations, pavilion delivery companies, and external system integrators.
• Participate in governance processes with the blueprint and architecture owners.
• Contribute to RFP documents, technical evaluations, and vendor assessment scoring.

Educational Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.
• Master’s Degree is preferred

Experience

• A minimum of 12 years of experience in the Technology industry with 6 years of experience in a senior management role.

Nature of Experience

• Smart-city platforms, digital twins, IoT ecosystems, AI/ML workloads, and mission-critical urban technology systems.
• High-availability, zero-downtime infrastructure design supporting massive user loads and global-scale events.
• Cloud security, regulatory compliance, and implementation of ISO, NIST, CSA CCM, Zero-Trust, NCA, and CITC requirements.
• Dev Ops/Git Ops automation, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure-as-Code deployments using Terraform or similar tools.
• Collaboration with government entities, PMOs, system integrators, and multi-vendor cloud delivery environments.

Job Specific Skills

• Deep expertise in multi-cloud architecture (AWS, Azure, GCP, Alibaba Cloud, and sovereign clouds) with strong understanding of hybrid and sovereign cloud models.
• Strong proficiency in designing scalable, high-availability, zero-downtime architectures for mission-critical and high-traffic environments.
• Advanced skills in Dev Ops/Git Ops, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure-as-Code (preferably Terraform).
• Strong understanding of smart-city technologies, digital twins, IoT, AI/ML, and edge-to-cloud integration patterns.
• Solid knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks (ISO, NIST, CSA CCM, Zero-Trust) and cloud security best practices.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to collaborate across PMO, operations, delivery partners, and global system integrators.
